Homesteading: A Woman's Journey | |
What does "A Simple Life" mean to you? This question was recently asked of me through a pen pal round robin I am participating in. It brought to me alot of thought and interspection. How do you put into words what it means to you to live a simple life? I finally realized that with each person the definition is different. For me, a simple life is a stress-free life. It is a lifestyle that brings you peace and contentment that rests deep in your soul. I am finding that as I continue my journey in learning of the Lord, and trust in Him to know what is best for my life, I am am more content and at peace. My hardest struggles happen when I don't follow the teachings of Christ. That is not to say that everything is easy when I follow His teachings. Only that things are easier than they are when I try to go my own way. I also find homesteading lifestyle to be something that brings peace ot my soul. Growing your own vegetables and fruit to feed to your family, raising your own meat, all brings you the peace of knowing exactly what is being fed to your family. You don't have to be concerned about pesticides used on the produce, hormones fed or injected into the animals. I love sewing for my family, whether it be Abbie's fitted cloth diapers, clothing or items for the home. I also enjoy crocheting. Besides the theraputic affects it has on my hands, it is comforting to know that I can make items that will bring warmth to others. These things remove stress from my life. They bring calm and peace. The last thing that I noticed that makes our life simple is the lack of credit cards. We pay cash for everything. That requires us to be frugal and exercise good stewardship over our finances. We don't buy things just becasue we want it, because it is bigger, newer or better than what we already have. We in many ways follow an old saying that I remember seeing on a needlepoint: "Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without." It is very freeing to not be slaves to the "things". We have what we truly need. We also have a few things that bring enjoyment to our family, such as starting a collection of family-friendly DVDs. Not having the extra debt that can come with credit cards, allows us the freedom to save money for other things that we enjoy. Living simply is a blessing for our family. We are able to focus on what is truly important and not be distracted with what the world says is important. I love my "simple life"! Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 174 of 179 } { Next Page } |
