Homesteading: A Woman's Journey | |
SAHMs don't work???It amazes me how many people think that a SAHM doesn't really work. I used to get offended by it, but now have to laugh. I work harder now than I ever had to when I had a job outside the home. Not that I was a lazy employee. Not by a long shot. It is simply that the hours that I keep now and the amount of work that I have now is more demanding. One of the blessings I have found on the internet is the Flylady's website at www.flylady.com. While I don't follow her recommended schedule exactly, I have found great wisdom in her ideas. Her schedule is not designed for a homesteading lifestyle, thus I have had to make adjustments to make her ideas fit my family's needs. I liked the Flylady's idea of having a specific routine for each day of the week. Each day, you have a general "blessing of the home" where you do a walk through and straighten up and put away things that are out of their place. Each day of the week though, you have specific rooms or areas that you work on and do a more thorough cleaning. By the end of the week, I have completed a thorough cleaning of the entire house. I do all the cleaning in the morning while the temperature is still cool. My afternoons are spent working on my home business and computer related tasks. The evenings are spent working on homecrafted items and Bible Study. Here is my typical daily morning schedule: Monday - Do Laundry; Clean Livingroom Tuesday - Baking Day! Do all baking (bread, snacks); Clean kitchen & pantry Wednesday - Do Laundry; Clean Laundry room and Bathroom Thursday - Clean Bedrooms & wash bedding; Do household paperwork (bills, shopping lists) Friday - Baking Day! Clean Kitchen Saturday - Family Day; Shopping, Errands Sunday - Worship & Family Time Once we have more animals (livestock) to care for and also a good garden growing, my days will be even busier. My home business is actually two businesses. I am an independent consultant for Close To My Heart as I mentioned in an earlier blog. I am also sewing baby items, women's sanitary pads, and household related items to sell. Next year, I hope to grow enough of the large bushel basket gourds and the birdhouse gourds to use for making handcrafted baskets, bowls and birdhouses in addition to painting them to make decorative items to sell. My crop of bushel basket gourds this year is my experimental crop to see how well they will grow and to play with the gourds to see what I can make from them. I hope by October that I will have some crafted gourds to begin selling for the holidays. With everything I have to keep my days busy, in addition to my first and most important responsibility of caring for our daughter and my husband's needs, it amuses me that some people still have the idea that SAHMs don't work. LOL May God's blessings be upon all of you and your families. Have a wonderful weekend! Paula Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 177 of 179 } { Next Page } |
