Let me explain.

Thanks Amy for your comment, and you didn’t offend me at all. I am what most people would call "green" because:

I grow and can our food, make my own natural cleaning products, make natural soap, hang my clothes to dry, thrift shop, combining trip (common sense), and do the 3 R (reduce, reuse, recycle), etc. I love learning how to homestead and enjoying the simple life.

My point is "green" is a new way for commercialism. Just look at the Internet ads, TV (which I don't watch except for "Wipeout" last night with the kids, which was funny, and the weather). The ads were either about some company being "green" or back-to-school commercials with children dressed inappropriately. They want us to do the 3 R's, but still buy all their products. What a joke.

Most homesteaders want the simple life. Most do not realizes the people controlling this "green" movement are indeed worshipping creation or I should say money. However, most normal people do not feel this way. We just want to do their part to keep this world God gave us clean. We know we are to protect the animals because God commanded us to have dominion over the animals and to work the ground with our hands (this is all in Genesis). Now that sin can into the world even the Earth moans, and one day it will be destroyed (not by man, but God)

So, in closing I still don’t like the word "green" for what it represents in the media and commercialism. However, I love the word God called us to be "stewards". It sounds so much nicer and had a broader meaning. We are not just stewards of God’s great creation, but His children, His money, and even our life (which is His). I think that why the homesteading blog is so great. A bunch of people coming together to try to live the simple life. God bless you all.

Can't agree with you more. :)

I was somewhere the other day and saw chicken noddle soup with "green" labels. Oh, hey! I can help save the environment and just buy some soup!

Haha. Ha.

It's commercialisim and the new hype. Al Gore's house, I've heard, is extremely inefficient! Oh, but he's bought enough "carbon credits" somewhere, I'm sure.

I want to sell those!

And then you have the people who say the best thing we can do to save the planet is to stop/limit/reduce the number of people we let live here!

By many standards, we'd be very "green" simply because we are frugal and our city requires recycling. I'd rather not be termed that, either! I'm simply trying to be the best steward of what God has given, as well! And that means not being wasteful.

Blessings,
Ashley

That was well put. I have to agree with you on the "green" word. It started out well, but now it is becoming overcommercialized.

Much like Christmas if you think about it. As soon as companies can latch on to something they do. I've even seen where some companies are now saying their products have always been green.

It's gotten to the point where the word green doesn't have the value it should have. Stewardship is a much better word indeed.

I do see your point, more this time that the last blog you wrote about being green. The fact that companies want to sell you green products to see money and make a profit, makes me upset as well. Everyone knows window cleaner is cheaper and better for the environment when made at home, but these companies put the word "GREEN" on a product because it is part of the new fad to sell things. Put a puppy on something, it will sell to those who love puppies. Everyone knows kids want the cereal that has Scooby Doo or some other cartoon on it, and now, the new fad is GREEN!!! LOL

I also agree many are earth worshippers and not God worshippers!!! It is sad!!! I had a friend who I thought was a Christian for a long time. then he started talking about how he prays to the earth, and blah blah. Turns out a friend gave him some information on Wicca, and he was hooked!

I agree that I love the word stewardship, and what it represents. I can see how everyone knows what it means (even if they ar not doing it) but the word green carries a different feeling of fads, making money commerically, etc.

Thanks for not being offended, and explaining. I think we are closer in understanding on this that I thought. Thanks for sharing!!!!

God's Blessings,
Amy Jo
