Hi.  This is my first blog.  Thank you to my sister "Keeblur" for helping me get this thing going and for introducing me to homestead blogger!  I look forward to learning more about homesteading.  I live on 10 acres and hope to start utilizing some of them this year to start our homestead.  I would be interested in any advice on how to transition from full time job to homesteading.

Also, if you have any advice on critters that would be good to begin with.  We have a barn, corral, a dried-up pond, and lots of trees.  My husband isn't home often, so most of the work will be up to the kids and me.

There will be NO word of the day on my site!

Hope to hear from you soon!

welcome! I look forward to getting to read your progress on your homestead. I should be moving into my homestead in about 3 weeks. Not so large as yours only 1.2 acres but we hope to have vege gardens, fruit trees & chickens.
have a great day

Critters and garden

Welcome,
I can try to help you with the critter questions, we have almost one of everything here! We are neighbors too.....kind of, I am in Kansas. I would suggest starting out with chickens, they are pretty easy and you have results fairly soon if you are wanting fresh eggs. It is almost time to get some baby chicks if you want to start there. The other thing that is my passion is goats........they are such fun! We have Pygmy and Boer goats, but you can get dairy goats for milk if that would be a benefit to your family. One pretty good tip is, start slowly, maybe one new kind of animal each year. That way you can do the research needed to get started properly and not just jump in blind. Of course that is easier said than done if you love animals and want a bunch!
As far as a garden, just get a small patch going in full sun and give it a try. Maybe not plant everything you want the first year, but get your feet wet and then you can expand next year.
We will be waiting to hear about your progress.

Boy we are neighbors, I live in Chickasha! I'm so envious that you are already living on your homestead. My husband and I are looking for a place right outside of chickasha down towards your way. It's so nice to meet you!
