Good morning all. I just had to post this picture as we had a BEAUTIFUL day yesterday. Ok, so it started out at 8 below zero but warmed up to a balmy 27 above. This whole weekend is suppose to be nice and not only do I  have an itch to get out and garden, I'm also itching to go camping. I love tent camping - for now it's as close to true old fashioned homesteading as I can get but I'll take it.  Taffy loves to go too as she's outside 99% of the time and we walk literally miles. Then there's the fun of scoping out beach front that we can swim in. Food tastes sooooo much better when cooked outdoors and the coffee is to die for. Mmmm. Taffy's only problem is the night sounds spook her and she barks so I have to put the soft muzzle on her at night. Esp when the coon come out to snoop. Poor Taffy. Drives her nuts. She also knows how to nose the zipper on the tent open so have to keep her on a leash and the handle around my wrist. Once things settle down and after an especially active day she usually settles down fairly quickly. While a most people I talk too gain weight while camping, Taffy and I usually loose - I'm sure it has to do with all the increased activity we get and the healthy eating we do. I bring the same healthy foods I eat at home and just cook them outdoors. We esp like fresh fish. Taffy likes to fish too. LOL She's soooo funny - she'll sit on shore and watch my bobber. As soon as it goes down her tail starts to wag, she scoots into the water and sits waiting for me to bring it in. Then she has to sniff it out. When I put it on the stringer she'll paw at it and try to play with it. It is quite cute. When I cast out, the whole process starts all over again LOL. I like to take dried fruits and veggies along - fruits for snacking and stirring into the hot cerial, also for stewing for a yummy desert. The veggies make a great fresh soup, pour hot water over them, let them set while we're walking or some other activity, heat with the meal and you have the veggies. Also make for a great stew that simmers all day in the cast iron pot burried in hot coals. Nothing like it.

As I said, had a beautiful day. The sun was shinning and temps above zero after the cold start. It was very pretty out. Taffy spent a lot of time outside. I finished up the hallway I've been working on. All smoothed out and painted top to bottom. What a good feeling to get that done.

I had to do some shopping today. The grocery had some beautiful fresh asparagus for $1.49 a bunch. I got two along with some red and yellow peppers and carrots. Had the asparagus steamed for dinner along with some roasted chicken breast.  Sure was good.

Well, I'd better go do some chores.  Today when I get up I'll need to wash work cloths, clean church and make bread. I'm thinking of making rolls instead of loafs. It may work better for me - we'll see. I've also a hankerin for granola so may mix up a batch as long as the oven will be on.

Have a great day everyone.

Michele

Love the picture. I am crazy about camping. But Dh is not so much. But we do get to go once and a while with the kids and grand kids.

I am so ready to get out and play in the dirt. Just trying to hang on for the last frost. Won't be long here in Texas.
