Winter Wonderland!! Sunday, December 2, 2007

Hello all from the winter wonderland!   We received 8-10 inches of snow yesterday/last night. I must say it sure wasn't fun driving to work nor coming home this morning. God was by my side and helped me to and from safe and sound. I just finished blowing out my driveway and am enjoying a nice hot cup of coffee with some awsome homemade peppermint mocca creamer. I've a boatload of dishes waiting for me but that can wait until after at least the third cup LOL. It was hard sleeping this morning with all the snow removal going on but right now I don't feel too bad. Maybe it was all that fresh air I just got that woke me up LOL.

Am almost ready to start decorating. The "fake" tree is up but not decorated. It looks good in the corner contrasting the new paint job I just did in the dinning room.  I'd like to get the living room floor done before I get the tree in there next weekend.  Only time will tell. So much to do but only so much time. Prioritize is the key.... right?

Reading Crystal's thoughts and ideas triggered a few of my own. I remember as a kid going and my Dad cutting the tree down, putting it in the back of the old blue pickup we had and my brother and I bundled up with blankets in the back with the tree on the way home. We'd set it up and the next day get to put our own special ornaments on the bottom branches. My mother had beautiful glass ones that we didn't dare touch on the top, Dad put on the angle (which they still have) then my mother would spend at least a week putting on the tinsle - one strand at a time until it was perfect. LOL - heaven forbid if someone walked past too fast and "tangled" the tinsle. I also remember baking cut-outs and frosting them. I think there was more frosting and sprinkles than cookie LOL My dad is a truck driver and would be gone all week and make a big production about those "wonderful" cookies when he came home Friday night.

Well, my week is going to be once again cleaning. Uff da, does it ever end??? I'm sooooo close to being "there". Next week I'll decorate   and the week after that is Cookie week!!  I think that's my favorite week of all. I LOVE baking and lovingly packaging up my treasures in decorated boxes for my brother's and families. I make each of their favorites and add a small trinket for the family - one year it was a DVD I got for an extreemly cheap price, another it was a hand made set of dish rags that a friend gave me (she had made like 100 of them and gave me about 20), You get the idea. They love it and makes it all worth while. I for sure don't need all those goodies hanging out at my house, my SIL's don't bake much so are very greatful, my neices and nephew love that I make sure to put in plenty of their favorites and I still manage to have enough for a nice cookie tray for Christmas day at the folks and a few for home - just enough for my daughter and I to get a taste but not so many that we're sick of them by the end of the week LOL.   I'll try to remember to post my favorites along with a few recipes as the week goes on.

How neat to have such a winter wonderland! We were still in the lower 80's here today. :-( I think we're getting a cold snap this week though.

I enjoyed the website that you reccommended. I'll have to try that homemade coffee flavoring!!
