Morning all. I'm here in frigid 7 degree weather with windchills of around -12. Brrrrr. Will have to thaw and toast those fuzzies!! LOL We've had a little snow - about 1 1- 1 1/2 inches over the last 36 hours. Maybe more tonite and are expecting even more on Sunday night.
In case you're wondering, my DD got a laptop from my parents - a pre-graduation present and she was able to link on a wireless somewhere in the neighborhood so here I am.
My Uncle passed away Sunday night and the funeral is at 1100 this morning. So many people last night. Had a nice suprise when my second cousins from Milwaukee came in. Haven't seen them in such a long time. For the most part everyone seemed to put their petty differences aside and focus on why we all came together. So many feuds going on that I didn't know about. Sigh..... Either they stayed on opposite sides of the room or were at least polite to each other. My Uncle made maple syrup every year the old fashioned way hauling buckets of sap to the "Sugar Shack" and boiling it down in the big pan he has set up there. All of us at one point or another participated in that annual spring event. He was known for it. I asked my Aunt if they tucked in a pint of maple syrup for him to take to Jesus and boy, talk about the wrong thing to say. She didn't appreciate it much LOL. She said the boys wanted to but she said NO. My cousin has some maple candy from him so she's going to bring a small chunk and slip it in the casket today before the services. Just wouldn't be right otherwise. You had to know him to appreciate it.
Other than that I've been busy at work. Had an extreemly busy weekend two weeks ago. Then the rest of the week was spent doing those little chores that add up and don't get done when we are so busy. At home I was busy just trying to keep up with the chores. I worked Monday of this week and have been off since. With the death in the family it's been a pretty rough week. Have done a little laundry and putzy work in the kitchen but that's about all my heart has had in it to do. I've also been getting the church cleaned up nice for the bake sale that occures this Saturday. Also the Bishop is coming for worship on Sunday so a little extra here and there. I'm working this weekend but am off the following two weeks and hope to get a lot done. Mostly in preperation for Christmas. I don't start decorating until the first but my house needs serious cleaning before that can be done. I also need to get the plastic up on the windows. Old house, old drafty windows even with the recaulking I've been doing. Wish I could afford new windows but the plastic seems to work wonders. Always something isn't it LOL?
I'm ever so thankful for all the canning I did over the past year. We've been enjoying wonderful soups, chilli, quick and easy hot meals from the veggies and meat that were canned as well as the fruit. Jams and jellies on nice warm biscuits and fresh bread round out the treats. I'm keeping careful inventory as we empty out so I can better plan for next year. It seems no matter how well I think I'm prepared, something always runs out before it should. The soups and stews aren't such a huge deal as that is something easily prepared and can be restocked year round but the veggies, fruit and even the meat are hard to replace in the dead of winter when they aren't good quality as when they are in season. Our local grocery just had pineapple for .99 a piece so I did pick out the best ones and canned up a few pints to see how it goes. Never canned pineapple before - wasn't hard but we'll see how it tastes in a month or so. Made an upside down cake using a few rings and it turned out suprisingly good. Never used fresh pineapple for that either. Hmmmmmm.
Well, I'd better go and try to turn out a load or two of laundry before I head out for the funeral. God's blessings to each of you!
Sending those warm toasted fuzzies to all!
