It's been raining here for the last week straight and no end in sight until maybe Saturday but instead of taking the road most are taking and complaining about it I have chosen to give thanks and find other postitive atributes. For starters, it's helped us catch up on our levels. instead of over 4inches below we are now only a half inch below our yearly average and what we need in our area. We could be like those poor folks in Georgia with the very stiff water restrictions. Second, I've been able to fill up on "emergency" water I can use for power outages for things like flushing the toilet. Also for watering house plants and the pets can drink it if they need to. Yes it's been very gloomy, but it also could be worse - much worse. The leaves are gone from the trees but my compost bin loves it and the moisture. The worms are still going at it LOL. I think the rain has also washed away the stale smells of the outdoors as it smells "clean" again.
Well, also this week I've climbed, washed/dried and conquered the infamous Mt. Washmore. Whew!!! Soft flannel sheets are on the beds, my wool blankets are keeping my toasty, and the comfy sweats and flannel shirts are a refreshing change of dress code.
Saturday a friend called and said they had too much fun hunting and would I accept 3 quarters and the straps/loin of the smaller of the deer they got. Would I?!?!?! I've been cutting it up and putting it in the freezer. I needed to clean out the outside freezer anyway and good thing. I've been canning some "lost" chicken, turkey, pheasant and "older" venison all week. Uff da, I really need to get out there more often. I've been keeping track in a small notebook what I put in there so now I'll know at a glance what I have and when I put it in there. Hopefully I won't have that problem again.
Well, better go make that granola that's been calling my name. My daughter has been on a huge kick and will pour a huge bowl and munch on it for snacks. I don't mind as I'd rather see her eat that than other junk food but portion control isn't one if her strong suits.
Have a great rest of the week everyone!
Michele
