Fall

My favorite season is the fall. I love the woodsy smells that come from the earth. I don't exactly know what it is but it's intoxicating.
The leaves bring in an explosion of color that makes even the dullest stretch of road vibrant and alive. Mind you a wet leaf covered road can be a bit dicey to manuver but if one takes their time, it's worth the drive. Walking seems to be even better. My dog Taffy loves to roll in the leaves as much as I do. I'll rake a big pile and we'll both lay in it just relaxing - ok, her relaxing while I scratch her belly .
There is an abundance (God willing) of fall food - apples that can be bought by the bushel instead of simply the pound, pumpkins all shiney sit in their glory - mmmmmm, roasted pumpkin seeds, pumpkin butter, cookies, pies....... oh the wonderous smells that can come from a fall kitchen! The tickeling zing of pickeling everything left in the garden, cinnamon and cloves from apple butter and cooked pumpkin. It's also time for those fall comfort foods - stews and soups with home made breads, biscuits and rolls. Oh, I'm drooling just thinking about it all.
Fall has it's own sounds as well. Instead of fluttering in the breeze, leaves tend to rattle. Ever notice that? There's the "plunk" of an acorn as it hits the ground - rolling to a stop to be grabbed by a chipmunk or squirel - or at my house, Taffy loves to chew them. I notice the rattle of old dead branches rubbing against each other as well. As the trees become bare, the wind tends to go right thru them creating a sporatic rattle and rub.
Sigh.... all to soon it'll be gone. The wind will howl, the air will get cold and the snow will fall all leading into a new season with all new sounds and smells.
Enjoy your beautiful fall weather!!
Thank you

I wanted to say thank you for saying I had nice blog. My friend does most of the work. I really don't know about these.
I have 2 kinds of apples. I have Granny Smith's and some red ones. I'm not sure which one. They are sweet. I usually make apple butter with them. I made fried apple pies today. I need to work on the dough a lot.
You are more than welcome to visit my blog anytime. Take care and enjoy the day. Patricia
