Good morning Friends. Am listening to the weather as I write this. I do believe "blustery" was the word he used. It's been in the 30's at night and lower to mid 50's during the day. Fall is here much to my delight. I love the fall. The beautiful colors, the fresh smells, the air is so much better...... The trees are starting to turn. I noticed that my maple trees have that yellow edge to them. They are starting to drop as well. The acorns are dropping as well. Funny but my dog Tafft loves to chew them. She'll sniff them out and lay down and go to town. LOL. She's so cute. The critters scold her for taking their food. Won't be long and that "s" swear word will be falling. I'm not a fan of snow. It's fine for the holidays and I understand it helps the hunters but other than that I really don't have much use for it. I'll scoop up about a bucket or two a week for watering plants and animals. I haven't heard the predictions for this year. We are still below what we need in the moisture dept. It rained off and on yesterday making for a dark and dreary day.
I made some wonderful salmon yesterday. I'll try to remember to post the recipe. Tonite is roast chicken. The leftovers will go into soup which will eventually be canned. I've also an abundance of a variety of onions I'll be drying too. Red, vidalia, yellow, white, "sweet" - my favorite is reds and vidalias. I love mixing the onions once dried - a very nice variety. I think my uncle has some red and green peppers for me to dry too. It's that time of year - almost sick of canning veggies so will revert to dehydrators (I have 2 with the max number of trays) then making small baggies of soup mixes.
I ended up with 36 half pints of apple butter. That will really hit the spot come winter months. My brother and father love applebutter so I've set some aside for them. Yup, it's apple season here in the northwoods. I'll be dehydrating some soon - if not this weekend. I've one of those old apple peelers where you stick the apple on the end and turn the crank. As the apple is pushed forward it's peeled by the peeler, cored and sliced into perfect slices. Cut once and your in buisness. I can usually get my niece to do this for me. We dip them in organic lemon juice and dry on the dehydrators. I may try sprinkling a tad of cinnamon on a batch to see how it turns out. Mmmmmm, I love the smell of apples. Will be juicing some and making more sauce and maybe a batch of jelly.
The dinning room is almost done. Put the last coat of paint on the last wall last evening. Looks nice. Not perfect but still nice. I think that with a couple stragecially placed wall hangings and nice curtains it'll be just fine. I'll put up the door and windows today, the carpet and trim tomorrow. I've a couple spots to touch up with the paint but the end is near!!!
Will clean out the freezer this weekend as well. I've some venison I need to can as well as a couple venison roasts from my mother. I'll also be getting some from my pastor as it's time for them to clean out their freezer as well. Mmmmmm, soup, stew, bbq, ect...... All in jars to simply be opened and heated. How much more could one ask for??
Well, I'm starting to get sleepy so better go walk around. Maybe I'll empty garbages a bit early this morning. I'm on vacation until next Friday so wishing everyone a wonderful, safe, healthy week. Take care and God Bless!!!!

hi Michele,
I see your experiencing wonderful fall weather. Well, here in Ohio, we were having it. But now its back up to the high 80s. Not too terribly hot but I love long, dreary, cool days. I'm weird like that. Your apple butter sounds delicious! I buy mine at the farmers market. I havent tried to make it yet. But I would love to give it a shot. You take care. Send some of that fall weather to Ohio ok? Bye.,
