Snow and Ice

Today began with snow, and it then changed to freezing rain. It is, however, much warmer--thankfully. The furnace is getting a nice break! I got my first seed catalog in the mail; the Lord knew that I needed a little boost in the midst of today's winter weather.

This was my view in the backyard as the snow changed to freezing rain around lunchtime:

The south-facing windows are now iced over with freezing rain. I'm thankful that the children and I are warm and cozy at home today. The wind is really howling outside. I'll be so happy when Hubby gets home this evening; I'm looking forward to his lighting a lovely fire in the wood stove. He really has the knack for building and maintaining a nice fire. I'm so excited because he'll be home for the next five days! We're going to have a wonderful time together! Hooray!!

This poor little guy looks a bit lonely and chilly:

This is a pretty piece of mock stained glass that I found at Goodwill. I think it makes the corner of our family room where I keep my houseplants look very homey.

My houseplants are in the area where hubby and I sit in the evenings. We like to read and spend time together. I spend a lot of time reading on new topics: food storage and preservation, gardening, crafts, family life, etc. My hubby likes to read on various history time periods, astronomy, and outdoor sports.

My dd #2 baked these Chocolate Crinkle cookies this morning. They look and smell great.

This afternoon she is baking a drop sugar cookie recipe with colored sprinkles on top. Yum! We're not doing much Christmas celebrating outside of exchanging gifts, but we are definitely doing a lot of baking. The girls have taken over much of the baking this year, and that makes Mama happy!

Blessings,
~Jennie
