Working on a December menu

I spent quite a bit of time over the weekend working on a month-long menu for December. I took Morning Sunshine's suggestion of making a menu for the entire month rather than a week or two, which is how I have been planning.

I followed my simplified plan of a specific main dish for each day of the week. This simple step helped me so much. Here is my December menu plan, charted in a calendar format. I planned all three meals since my hubby comes home for lunch each day.

Here is my finished December menu, in a vinyl page protector:

After planning the menu, I collected all main dish recipes and also put those in page protectors according to type: spaghetti, rice/beans, etc.

My final step will be planning my grocery list from the menu. I have usually shopped and cooked the other way 'round--buy the groceries, then plan the meals. I'm hoping that being more organized before shopping will make my life a bit easier and reduce my grocery bill, too!

Off to watch a little t.v. with Hubby; we like the political shows on Fox News. We are proud to be conservatives, and pray for the best for our country.

Blessings,
~Jennie

Hi, I'm doing monthly dinner menu's too. I was wondering are you doing B, L, and D on one menu? I want to do it in pencil in long hand instead of typing. Seems like it can be done. What is highlighted in yellow, dinner?

Be blessed and thanks a lot!

Explaining a bit more....

I have breakfast, lunch, and dinner all on one page. Lunch is highlighted yellow, primarily to separate each block into three meals, and to make it easier to read.

I'm going to make my grocery list over the Thanksgiving weekend. I'm trying to decide if I want to once-a-month grocery shop, or every two weeks. I have done both over the years, and each way has advantages/disadvantages.

My hubby kept asking me why I didn't type my menu on the computer, but I really like to write out things with pen and paper--grocery lists, "to do" lists, etc. I just prefer writing out my lists. :-) Guess I'm kind of old fashioned in that way!

Blessings,
Jennie

very nice. I like it. I go through spurts - I will do a menu for 4-5 months, and then I will get off track for a few, then back on.... but I always like it better when I have one. I think I will be able to keep this on one for a while now that I have a plan for my menus and not just "well, when shall we eat xxxx this month?"
