November 8, 2006 - Bees & Beekeeping: Welcome!

Bees & Beekeeping by Matthias Trentsen
Available at AllPosters.com
Welcome to Beekeeper Dreams! Please bare with me while this blog is still under construction and renovation. Here I plan to share all about my desire to acquire and keep bees and I hope you'll join me.
Often, I learn best when I share what I'm reading and learning. The "Beekeeper Dreams" blog, while providing resources and information about bees and beekeeping, is part of my research project in becoming a future beekeeper.
Did you know that honey bees are considered to be livestock? They are and their hives have been manipulated for centuries if not millenia. The ancient Egyptians had apiaries and bees are depicted throughout their drawings and hieroglyphics.
Currently, I am reading two books: Robbing the Bees, by Holly Bishop, and The Backyard Beekeeper, by Kim Flottum. There is so much to learn and enjoy about this unique little insect, mankind's relationship with it and our enchantment with its liquid gold.
Among the topics I hope to share are: bee biology, beekeeping history, modern apiaries, and all about honey and its use as a healthy alternative to sugar. I am currently converting over to honey - especially in my coffee. While I am currently dealing with the immediate "sugar withdrawal headaches", I am loving honey in my coffee.
Be sure to visit me at my regular blog spots: South of the Gnat Line and Jacobs Academy.
Honey Bee Blessings,

This blog is gorgeous! Maybe we can learn right along with you. We have some friends here that are into bees and we're interested in it too.

I gotta get me one of those posters.....this looks wonderful and I love the layout. When your free time opens up, sometime in 2012, will you help me with my blog decoration skills?

Harriette, I too was born in 1961, do some freelancing work, and am in the process of launching my beekeeper dreams next spring (I admit, I am a farmgirl wannabe)!
It was a lucky accident that I found your page here - I\'m glad to have company in this endeavor.
Your site here is beautiful and tastefully done!! (I also admire you for homeschooling)
Thank you for being of a mind to share with us on the web. May we enrich each other!

January 3, 2007 - Another book
Posted by Joey
I am a beekeeper (for a couple of years at least) so I claim no professionalism. But, can I recommend another book to you? I read Beekeeping for Dummies (I admit I was a little skeptical with that name!) and after reading it, had as much knowledge as beekeepers who had been doing this for years. They kept quizzing me and I knew the answers from this book. It is interesting and a fast read. -Casey (Sorry I don't have a name for Homestead Blogger yet!)
