We had approximately 50 folks at the NAIS meeting last month, including the fellows that tried to block our meeting and stuck us with the expense of the room (what nerve!) Jim Kunkle (IL Dept of AG) and Dr. John Wiemer (USDA) gave excellent presentations on the PRO-NAIS, however those of use who are ANTI-NAIS were left with more questions and concerns than before. The vast majority of our questions were answered by skirting around the subject and making references that NAIS was ‘only a draft’, although there are no provisions other than this draft. There major concern was getting premises that raise livestock identified. I urge caution in doing this under the premise of NAIS. Attorneys have advised that if you voluntarily sign on to the premise ID, then you are also giving consent to accepting the NAIS draft as a whole. We need to get MORE people made aware of this unconstitutional draft. Not just the folks that raise their own livestock, but any of you who buy direct from your local producer or have a desire to. This WILL negatively affect us all. There are a number of websites that will give you more information about the NAIS. Contact both your Federal and State congress persons about this. The States seem to think it is a Federal issue, but all States are pushing the mandatory premises identification. This year they want to ID premises that keep livestock, will next year they want to ID premises that grow vegetables?? Think it absurd, it will never happen? That is how we felt about the NAIS when we first heard of it. We need to take control of our private lives BACK from the government! |
