Our Thanksgiving weekend

{ 09:10, Monday, December 1, 2008 } { Posted in Family } { 0 comments } { Link }

We have survived another Thanksgiving weekend.  It was a flurry of cooking, visiting, and shopping.  It was good but tiring.  The best part is that all my Christmas shopping is DONE!    Now my Christmas sewing is another story......but I will be working on it once we break from schooling as we usually do in December.

Back to our weekend.... I was able to get all of my cooking done the night before, make 2 double batches of rolls in the morning, and get to Grandma's house ON TIME!  This is a big deal for me.  It seems something always goes wrong and I end up making the rolls at her house or not cooking them right or something.  But this year all turned out well.

My in-laws got a Wii and brought it to the gathering.  It was fun at first... I played a game or two...but then it stayed on most of the day.  To be fair we do have a large extended family but I did get tired of it.  Many of the game are decent and have no objectionable material.  But others are not so good.  Handsome Hubby and I are still in agreement that we still do not want any type of system in our home.  We have a couple of "plug and play" games by they rarely (maybe once every 2-3 months) come out.

We want to avoid the "techo-addiction" (yes I just made that up) that we see in so many children and teens now.  It seems they can't go an hour without playing a game or being in the cell phone or computer.  They often talk about games and carry portable models with them.  Those things are expensive!  So we have decided we are opting out completely.  We allow play when at a friends house if we approve the game but we try to limit the time.  Children need to play without machines.

OK, off my soap-box now.

Handsome Hubby made 2 deep-fried turkeys... YUMMY!  If you have never tasted a DFT they are so good!  He has the whole set-up just like Alton Brown and uses his recipe.  The best part is that it cooks up in only 1 hour.  Good to the Food Network Site and check it out.

Friday I hit the sales, Saturday we cleaned the house adn went out to dinner with the family.  Sunday was spent in worship, eating leftovers, and more worship.

What a nice weekend.

Mother of 6 blessings (and #7 due in Jan. 09!) from the Lord & Helpmeet to my Handsome Hubby who is my best blessing of all
