lambing season is here

well i was steadly waiting for the sheep to give birth, and just when i thought i messed up on their due dates, they proved me wrong. so far i have 3 baby ewe lambs and 2 ram lambs! these  babies are too cute, lots of spots this year, which is something we have been trying to get.

i love the newborns and how they look  at everything for the first time. makes me feel young too. i set outside and just watch them interact with each other, and learning the ropes, and the first time they saw snow, they just weren't sure what that was, but didn't really like it.

Big Baby had a white ewe lamb, and with this being her first time, i am glad she only had one, she hasn't seemed to grasp the whole concept that baby follows momma not the other way around. i have hope for her, but so far she still follows instead of leads. the baby's name is Junebug. after the Skippy Jon Jones books that my children so dearly love. Junebug is Skippy's mom's name.

the next to go was Izzabelle, and this is Izzy's third time being a mom, so she is a pro. she had 2 rams, one red and one red and white spotted. since her rams will be registered 100% katahdins i know that one will be left a ram, and our new herdsire. as for the other one, he will be one of my daughters' wethers for the sheep project this year, just not sure which one yet,,

and Pumpkin then decided it was her turn, she had 2 spotted ewe lambs! Pumpkin is one of my favorites, she is so laid back, and i think she is very correct and her color is a white with spots that are the color of pumpkins, so now you can see how she got her name.

the next one to go is a first timer, Jezzebell, i hope she gives atleast one ram so that my other daughter will have a wether for 4-H this year, otherwise i will have to buy one!! which is okay i have one lined up if i need to buy one. i try to have all my bases covered, well as much as possible that is.

this is still a slow time, but it is speeding up with each passing day. my oldest doe, Justy is due next, and i so hope she gives atleast one doe kid, she is 8 years old now, and i think she deserves just to retire and live life. tho she has to be penned byherself, she doesn' t play well with others, at all. so i find it best for everyone here that Justy has her own pen, and run. and the others tend to be happier to. She has scared many a person to, with her ways, but she is one of the sweetest goats to people, but would prefer to not be around any other animals. and i am not sure cause i have had her since she was 2 months old. i think that is just her personality.
