yesterday me and my girls went to Colombus Indiana after a great prynees puppy. i have had LGD before and Pry too, so this wasn't a totally new adventure for me, but the girls were so excited to have a puppy, they had been begging me for one for atleast 2 year now. i finally caved in since my 2 outside dobies are turning 7 this year and i would like to have them help with the training of the pup. so i did some looking on the www. and found this gal in southern indiana. so after sending a deposit and thinking that a female puppy would be better, away we go to check them out. the girls got to go since they didn't have school, no snow day makeup. so thought that would be a perfect day to go. well Vicki Coffman was a gem, she answered all my questions and showed me everything i needed to see. my kids were in heaven with the puppies, and of course wanted to take them all home! secretly so did I, put can't tell that to 2 eight year olds!!LOL well we ended up getting alittle older pup named Moses, and yep went for a girl came back with a boy! he was older and had some training, and was i think a better fit than the 12 week olds. so here is a pic of our new boy!

well i was steadly waiting for the sheep to give birth, and just when i thought i messed up on their due dates, they proved me wrong. so far i have 3 baby ewe lambs and 2 ram lambs! these babies are too cute, lots of spots this year, which is something we have been trying to get. i love the newborns and how they look at everything for the first time. makes me feel young too. i set outside and just watch them interact with each other, and learning the ropes, and the first time they saw snow, they just weren't sure what that was, but didn't really like it. Big Baby had a white ewe lamb, and with this being her first time, i am glad she only had one, she hasn't seemed to grasp the whole concept that baby follows momma not the other way around. i have hope for her, but so far she still follows instead of leads. the baby's name is Junebug. after the Skippy Jon Jones books that my children so dearly love. Junebug is Skippy's mom's name. the next to go was Izzabelle, and this is Izzy's third time being a mom, so she is a pro. she had 2 rams, one red and one red and white spotted. since her rams will be registered 100% katahdins i know that one will be left a ram, and our new herdsire. as for the other one, he will be one of my daughters' wethers for the sheep project this year, just not sure which one yet,, and Pumpkin then decided it was her turn, she had 2 spotted ewe lambs! Pumpkin is one of my favorites, she is so laid back, and i think she is very correct and her color is a white with spots that are the color of pumpkins, so now you can see how she got her name. the next one to go is a first timer, Jezzebell, i hope she gives atleast one ram so that my other daughter will have a wether for 4-H this year, otherwise i will have to buy one!! which is okay i have one lined up if i need to buy one. i try to have all my bases covered, well as much as possible that is. this is still a slow time, but it is speeding up with each passing day. my oldest doe, Justy is due next, and i so hope she gives atleast one doe kid, she is 8 years old now, and i think she deserves just to retire and live life. tho she has to be penned byherself, she doesn' t play well with others, at all. so i find it best for everyone here that Justy has her own pen, and run. and the others tend to be happier to. She has scared many a person to, with her ways, but she is one of the sweetest goats to people, but would prefer to not be around any other animals. and i am not sure cause i have had her since she was 2 months old. i think that is just her personality. let it snow, let it snow!!

well last night and so far this morning it has been snowing!! now not as much as what was first predicted but still, i think the snow is gorgous!! and i like it even better when i can still drive in it !!wink now as i was out of the porch watching the snow, i didn't get greeted in the normal way from the critters, instead of being outside, saying we want our breakfast too, they in turn were either still sleeping in their warm beds of straw, tho there was a few brave souls that just tilted their head like to say yep mom is up. LOL animals and kids have that wonderful way of keeping things simple and keeping us adults in line. DUH!!LOL

things here have been slow and i have been taking the time to enjoy things, but as with everything an end is near! the goats will start kidding in Feb, along with the sheep lambing, so there will be cute little babies everywhere!! i can't wait! my daughters have been asking when the babies are coming for about a month now, i wonder if they still will when there is a gazillion mouths to feed milk to!LOL i have 36 does going to kid, and the sheep i believe 8-9, i am never sure with those, as i pasture bred them, compared to the goats were there is very visiable signs of cycling. but i like surprises, so the sheep have never let me down yet!! the only down side to this is that i can't keep them all!! i even enjoy the all nighters waiting on babies, and the lack of sleep that follows thru out the day and days ahead. call me strange but i wouldn't change it for anything! since we show our goats, there is always the excitment of the first fresheners and how they turn out, and the offspring from new sires, and how they look. i just wish the weather would break so that it wouldn't be so cold for the new ones! i thought i would put some pics of her of last years babies! Enjoy! the first pic is of one of our ewe lambs, Names LambChop!
this is Nayla, Nala and Noidzilla above they were just born.

Who neeeds ADT, we have a Nubian!

well i have been meaning to tell this story and i just have the time to write it down, about 2 weeks ago i heard one of the Nubian dairy goats out here just yelling her head off, so i got up mind you this was 4 am, and went out to take a look see. I step out of the back door, and she "Princess" walking very fast and around in circles, looking around and hollaring. for those that don't or never had a Nubian goat, well let me just say that they have a very noticable voice. so i go out even farther, wiping the sleep from my eyes, trying to find out what is going on. the closer i got i heard some soft muffled voices, and i began to look at toward the road, which isn't very far from the goat lot. and sure enough i see 2 girls that couldn't be over the age of 14, walking on the road, and then they saw me and took off running. and i would say that they snuck out and were on their way back home.all the time "Princess" was still acting wierd, and it wasn't until the girls were out of sight and eye shot that "Princess" calmed down and was quiet, and i stood there in my pj's in the dark looking at the doe, and i began to laugh, cause she was telling me that " the people were out of their pen, and Mom come get them",, LOL and i am sure that she was telling the girls that they were going to get in BIG trouble and she was going to tell me all about it! and she was the only one doing this, the rest of the herd was just relaxing and sleeping, tho she did wake a few up and the look in their faces when they saw that "Princess" was freaked out over people and not some rabid dog, or better yet those scary rabbits that live around here, that sneak up while they are eating and scare them,( that is another story), was priceless, let me says that "Princess" was the most popular girl on the block for the next few days!!LOL but i figured out since i have twin daughters and i know there will come a time when they try to sneak out or maybe even sucessfully sneak out, so instead of setting the ADT alarm i will just post one of our Nubians at each door and window, so that all the future "Princesses" will be able to make sure and tell "mom" when the people are out of thier pens!!!!LOL

Getting Hay and meeting the "grain man",,LOL

well today my mother and I went and got a large ton bale of hay, and we get these bales twice a month and feed to all the critters here, and we have been going to this place for years and years, and we have already told them what type of hay we wanted and how many for this year. well after saying that,, we weighed the truck and pulled around to get loaded, when here comes a bale of hay that wasn' t the greatest, and i am being nice here. well we always get alfafa, and this was timothy grass. and when we asked are you sure this is the bale we are suppose to get, the hired hand shot back i am the "grain man" not the hay guy, LOL now my mother turned to me and i had to turn away so i wouldn't laugh and hurt his feelings. then the "grain Man" said he wasn't going to get another bale and that we couldn't just take this one. so we paid for it and then called the owner of the farm and operation. when he got there he switched bales out and we paid the difference as the alfafa bale weighs more, and when he asked what the grain man said, and we told him, he thought it was as funny as we did! so beware of the grouchy grain men out there loading hay!!LOL

sure was hoping to show my goats at the Tn state fair this year, but with the heat and the fact that it is a 7 hour drive i just couldn't fathom my girls in a trailer for that long of a time, and then the heat down there is over a 100, my girls would have went on stike!! to say the least!LOL and with the daughters in school and my grandmother getting into a car wreck, i guess it just wasn't meant to be this year! I was hoping to see some friends down there that i haven't seen in over a year, i guess i will have to make a trip when it is cooler!!! I love a good road trip don't you?

well my family jersey cow graced us with a little heifer!! Daisy May was alittle over due, but all in all in good health and mom is too! I was so hoping that Franci would have a heifer since she was the only cow we had, and i really thought she would enjoy having a "buddy" besides the goats and sheep! Franci is 10 years old and won't be bred again, not for anything that she has done, I just think that she has done enough in her life,, before coming here she was at a dairy and had to work for a living, so now she just has to relax and enjoy being a cow!! I will milk her for atleast 2 years and she were she is in quanity at that time. Daisy sure thinks that it is fun to run and feels the need to run everywhere she goes! i hope to get some pics of her but not sure if i will have the time! i can only imagine the adventures i will write about her in the days to come!

well over the past weekend, i went to Ohio and picked up are newest herdsire for the alpine herd, his name is Rock-Haven Challenge Telwaz, he is all black and quite a nice looking young man! the breeders were attending a show in Croton Ohio, and i was planning on going and showing there, but my relief milker was called in to work, so i couldn't very well take 20 head of milking does, and a jersery cow to an open show,, tho i believe they would have loved the entry money from the 20 head of does, but the cow might have been another story!!LOL so myself and my daughters left on sunday to go and get the guy and visit with some friends! i had never been to this fairgrounds, and this is a really neat set up! i mean the barns and grounds were so nice, and clean, easy access, i mean this is a nice place! there was a big turn out for the show, and i saw such wonderful animals from Ohio. we even go to watch a little bit of a horse show. well Telwaz is settling in nicely, and i know that he will be more than ready for his girls this fall! i hope to post a pic of him soon. the pic below is his grandmother,, and he too is jet black!!! I seen friends that i hadn't seen in years, and got to catch up and i even caught up on sleep, My daughters were at their dad's so i was able to take a nap after showing! the Henry County fair is always a pleasure to go and see, i recommend if you are ever over there that you go and visit! there is so many things to see and do, and the people are alwasy so nice!
