After helping get my dh back in shape, I worked all week trying to get the dining room and kitchen in order. Painting, moving furniture, preparing to lay some donated carpet (just in the dining area!). Our internet connection went wacky during the ice storm we had on last Sunday...come to find out it was a typo on the side of our cable modem installer not the weather. But I didn't get to try out the fixed connection on Wednesday. After I got off the phone with the technician I realized I had a ferocious headache. Then came the chills, fever, general feeling of yuck. My dh had noticed a flu aid when we picked up his meds for the pneumonia on Friday. He had heard good things about it and rushed to the pharmacy and got some for me. It's called Oscillococcinum and it's homeopathic. My oldest dd started with the symptoms the next day...and I had her take some of the Oscillo right away. Yesterday was rough, but today I'm feeling better, mostly just fatigued with a little headache (green tea and honey soothe that)...and my dd has bounced back pretty well, thanks in part to her youth I think. I'm impressed with the Oscillo. It's the first homeopathic health aid I've tried. I'm going to have to learn a bit more. And just to change the subject... I got Herrick Kimball's book, "Writings of a Deliberate Agrarian," in the mail on Monday. I just finished it tonight. I thoroughly enjoyed it. My dh commented on how much joy it gave me (as I kept reading bits out loud) and is reading it next. I offered to let anyone in the family read it before I start underlining and highlighting my favorite parts during my reread. You can get it directly from Mr. Kimball on his website: http://www.thedeliberateagrarian.com/. I got a signed copy and I'm looking forward to reading his blogsite. He's a good writer and his book is an easy read full of his life and faith. P.S. An update on my garden (inside the house, that is): I planted four Jiffy peat discs each with lemon basil, cinnamon basil, and garlic chives. I put them on the dryer to germinate. When they popped up a little, I took a lamp that I used on the piano, boosted the plants to within six inches of the bulb and they're doing great. I'm hoping to move them into their own pots this weekend and start a new batch of something (maybe lavendar and chamomile). And... I need tips on my transplanted peppermint. They're in the kitchen window...but they've somehow brought aphids in with them...even though it's winter outside. I wipe the stems every day and have sprayed them with water and a couple drops of dishwashing liquid. Anyone know a non-toxic, non-chemical way to get those little green bugs off my poor plants?
