We have been searching for land, particularly land with a home already on it.  We cannot seem to find exactly what we believe we need.  So for now we are staying put. Jason and I were just talking about it this morning.  We drove past a property.  The land looked beautiful, but it is on a very busy road.  The house is only 1002 sq ft.  We were considering it, but the price would put a strain on our finances.  It seems every where we look there are things about the properties that we just don't like or want or can't afford.  So we think it is a closed door for now.  We are okay with that.  It will give us time to read and learn from others, and probably have an even better idea of what type of land we need.

You might be better off just driving around and finding a spot that you like... and then going personally to the farmer who seems to own the acreage. Or perhaps a neighboring farmer will know who owns the acreage. Many farmers are willing to sell-off some of their land if they think that some young homesteaders will cherish it as much as they do. You might even get lucky and find a farmer who is ready to retire and wants to sell his land privately, rather than go through a realtor. Good luck!
