Living Free

• Thursday, September 7, 2006 - Any Suggestions?

The past couple of days we have been scouring the internet looking for property.  It seems most housing in our area is a little more pricey than we had planned on spending.  There is a prospect we will try to go see tomorrow.  It is a cute little house on 2 acres.  This is less land than we had originally been looking for.  Our daughter would love to have a horse, but there are other things we want/need to start first, like a garden and chickens.  We are city folk and are not sure what amount of land would be sufficient.  Any suggestions?

Barnyard in your Backyard is a great book with lots of information for beginners. We have 3 acres now and we have 8 goats, 2 pigs, 10 chickens, 3 dogs, and 2 rabbits. And sometimes, that is too much to keep up. Just starting out and small scale it is fine. My daughter wants a horse too, but we have to build a barn first, and it is pretty expensive to build, so we are having to hold off on that right now. Good luck with the house hunting.
