Snakes and compost

I specifically had dh make a compost tumbler out of a trash can instead of an open-air compost bin because of snakes.  With the variety of poisonous ones we have here I didn't want to take any chances of having any unpleasant run-ins while mixing the pile or such.  All has gone well with having the tumbler until the other day when I was finishing up the mowing.  I got near the tumbler and what do I see?  A snake lying next to it!  I can't seem to win. LOL

Yuck! Would they go down into an open air pile? I guess it would get nice and hot for them. YUCK!
