New lawn tractor

06:12, 2006-Jun-17 .. Posted in Homestead Musings .. 1 comments .. Link

Dh finally decided on a lawn tractor and brought it home this morning.  He mowed most of the property himself, but saved a bit for me so I could start getting used to operating it.  It's quite a bit different from our last mower and quite a bit bigger, but I'll get used to it as time goes on.  I won't be mowing around the pond though as the embankment is too steep and I know I would easily flip over.  Dh intends to buy a utility cart to pull along behind it.  I am on both sides of the fence concerning that.  On the one hand I can see how much easier it will make hauling yard debris to the road and how it will be tremendously faster than us dragging everything down there ourselves.  On the other hand I hate the thought of using gas to drive it back and forth to the road when it's a job we could do ourselves (we've been doing it that way for over 2 years now).  We have hundreds of Brazilian pepper trees on our property that surround our cleared land along with saw palmettos, cabbage palms, needle palms, sabal palms, pines, and goodness knows what else is mixed in the jungle.  We have to trim the pepper trees constantly and give all the rest a good topping at least once a year so I know this purchase will be for the best and give us more time for other projects.  I still hate the thought of spending the money and using the gas though.

Sounds like a wonderful piece of machinery to have on your homestead Kim.
