Wednesday's Ramblings

Ds1 had a dental appointment this morning and the dread that I always feel enveloped me again.  It went as was to be expected..... it took 45 minutes to drive there, we were kept waiting 37 minutes before they called him back, and it took almost an hour to drive back home.  I hate the drive.  I hate all the crazy drivers on the roads here.  I hate the overcrowding on the roads and the dental office is in one of the busiest parts of 'town'.  They had apparantly scheduled many kids with the same appointment times so the waiting room felt like a cattle feed lot with all of us crammed in there.  Ds2 got really fussy while we were waiting, but thankfully he fell asleep and snoozed the rest of the time we were there.  I know that part could have been a lot worse.

I talked to dh about it and we're checking into taking ds1 somewhere else.  It really won't matter $$ wise where we go as our dental insurance is pretty crappy and there are hardly any participating dental providers on it (we won't go to either of the two groups that are).  Not every dentist here will do mercury free if you request it and not all of them will honor a request of no fluoride treatment so that's where the 'checking into' is coming into play.  Where we currently take ds1 is just using the office of another dentist once a week in the town nearest us.  The dentist ds1 sees is only there once a month.  If he has an sort of emergency at any other time, we have to take him to an office 60 miles away or one about 70 miles away depending on where she is working that day.  It's just too much - too much time and too much $$ burned in gas.  Hopefully we can get him in with a dentist that's been suggested to us.  It would be half the distance we're driving now and he's always in that office.

We also found out this morning that dh's dad is in the hospital.  He's been there since Sunday and no one called to tell dh until today!  Typical.    He was rushed to the emergency room Sunday and admitted.  This is probably truly the beginning of the end for him.  I'd say dh's mom's recent diagnosis of colon cancer along with surgery and finding out she's going to have to have chemo has probably caused his dad to get even more of an "I give up" attititude.  His dad has staph and we've been advised by our pediatrician for ds2 and me to not be around him or even go into dh's parents' home.  I'm sure all this is going to start up the emotional roller coaster again of whether or not dh will go.  It's 650 miles away and he'll have to rent a car since I'll need our main vehicle and our 2nd vehicle won't be able to make that kind of trip.

I feel the need to go on a decluttering spree through the house again as well.  It'll be a challenge with everything all out of sorts with our remodeling still in progress, but I'll do what I can.  I have been working on getting our photos more organized as well and want to tackle our household file boxes as well.  With one more member of our family now, there's even less room in our vehicle in the event we have to evacuate due to a hurricane.  I need to have together only what's necessary paperwork wise and I can just grab it and go.
