Some of this weeks shopping trips...

Posted on Saturday, January 10, 2009 at 07:59

As I sit enjoying my morning tea and looking over my grocery reciepts from the last week, I thought I would share some of my great buys for the week.

In the beginning of the week, I hit CVS, they were having 75% off Christmas things, well the only thing I went for was the bags of candy.  I got 20 bags of candy and with my coupons and an ECB deducted from my finds I paid 89c.  I got 10 bags of M&M's and 3 Musketteers, they were 75c and I had 50c coupons. So I paid 25c a bag.  I also got some Reese's peanut butter cups for 75c a bag.  My bill was so low because I paid with a $7 and something Extra Care buck from buying something else that gave me a buck.  I try and use my ECB's for other ECB items, to keep them rolling over for another free item but sometimes I just can't do that, so I used it for FREE CANDY on Monday.  I kept a few bags out and tossed the others in freezer bags and tossed them in the freezer for next Christmas. They will stay good I do it every year.  I also went back last evening and bought 6 Large bags of Stayfree pads, these were on sale for $4.50 a bag down from $5.99, you needed to spend $20 and get a $10 ECB.  I used 3 FREE coupons when you buy 1 stayfree, so total I bought 6 bags for $27 and used 3 BUY 1 get 1 free coupons and had $13.50 deducted from the $27 and used a $10 ECB to pay plus $3.50 cash so I got over $35 worth of pads for $3.50 not a bad haul if I do say so.   I also had $2.50 coupons for a double pack of Glade candles, they were on sale for $5.49 total was $16.47 minus the $7.50 for the coupons= $8.97 minus the $6 earned for ECB's = $2.97 or 99c each for a 2 pack of glad apple cinnamon candles.  I made up a beautiful Christmas bag for each of my girls with Candles I got this past year for FREE or pennies, I figured I gave them about $75 each in assorted candles for maybe $5 total.  THEY LOVED THEM.  I did this last year and plan on doing it every year.  Candles can be expensive and I LOVE CANDLES myself.  (One time my daughter Stacie counted my candles and I had over 100 sitting around.  So you see I do LOVE CANDLES.  I hope to find many more deals like this through out the years.  I kept one of the 2 packs for myself and the other 2 I put in my Christmas closet.  I could have gotten 2 more but the store only had 3 packs, so if I get out tomorrow (WE are currently in the middle of snow) I will try and find the others to get my limit of 5.  Then I got Garnier Fructis shampoo on sale for $2.99 with my $1 coupon and a $2 ECB so FREE.  This coming week at CVS I can't find much, if I do I will post, I do plan on driving to a few tomorrow though because their Christmas things should be 90% off.  And I love to shop then.

Next I moved on to Landis supermarket.  Yesterday I went early in the morning after taking Logan to pre-school and got 17 free rolls of Marcal toilet paper, I had free coupons.  These did expire in December but Landis allows expired coupons up to 2 weeks after expiration date, which is great for me, you can't imagine how many times they put something on sale after the coupon expires that I could have gotten free.  And I do because of their flexible coupon policy.  I also got 10 boxes of Eggo french toast tricks and also a new product they make "Muffin tops", I never saw this product before, but I got 5, my kids LOVE chocolate chip muffins.  We haven't tried these yet, so I can't tell you how they taste.  These are normally $3.99 a box on sale for $1.50 and I had 10 75c coupons so makes them Free and you can't argue with FREE.  My freezer is loaded with Green Giant steam fresh veggies, that have been $1 a bag and with the 50c coupons doubled and the $1 coupons available right now, makes for lots of veggies.  I also had 15 $1 coupon on dannon drinkable yogurts, they were $1.19 so I paid 19c each, my daughter loves to grab one of these with her breakfast.  So Amanda was happy.

Next I was off to Weis.  They had Dawn dish liquid for $1 a bottle, I have 50c coupons.  They allow 10 of the same to be doubled at my Weis but NONE on the shelves.  I got a rain check.  And I Plan on going 2 more times, I have 30 coupons in all, these are normally $2.19 a bottle on sale for $1 with my coupon doubled FREE.  So if I get all 30 I will be getting over $65 in dish liquid for absolutely nothing.  WOO HOO..  Muir glen tomato paste is 99c with my 75c coupons doubled makes them FREE.   Endus is buy 1-1 free $3.69 so my $2 coupon scanned off I paid $1.69 not FREE but a good buy for a $3.69 product bringing it down to about 85c a can.  Some people have been getting Endust FREE at Kmart with their super doubled, I was very dissapointed when I went nothing on the shelves at all and very high priced I thought.

I had fun this week  shopping and not spending very much money at all. I did have to buy some fruit and milk, but with my stockpile that was it.  I have lots of frozen, including meat which I only buy on sale or reduced, and you can really find some buys.  About a month ago my father found boneless skinless chicken breast for 99c a lb!!  He brought me over 40 lbs.  And chicken is my favorite you can make many different meals with diced up chicken.  I also ground some to make a chicken meal my friend Judy had made when she invited me over for lunch.  Thanks Judy!

Well I need to clean off my desk.  Today's duties will include sheets to be washed, floors being washed, and of course meal planning for tonight.  We are having meatball hoagies, salad and I think I will make a cake for dessert.

I hope you have a great day on your homestead and HAPPY SHOPPING!!!

We are currently a family of 5. My husband John, and our 2 sons, John and Anthony and our daughter Amanda. We have 4 other children, who all have grown and moved out. We are blessed with 2 wonderful grandsons, Jaydon and Logan, who I watch while their mommy works. Jaydon is in school all day and Logan attends pre-school right now. We are in the process of remodeling our home, and doing our kitchen which is the last that needs to be done. As I type this John is putting up the tiles on the backsplash. He is almost done with our kitchen and he has done a terrific job.I enjoy couponing, bargain hunting, cooking and spending time with my family. Why don't you come on in and enjoy a cup of tea and read some of my blog. Thank you for taking the time to stop in.
