He looks like a cricket to me. As for them staring as grubs , no. We have grubs that turn into Beatles.
My youngest daughter makes grubs as pets!!

Crickets don't have a larvae stage, they go straight from egg to nymph. There are several different types of crickets. House crickets, field crickets, cave crickets - each with a different coloring and wing size. We saw one last night that was reddish looking with extremely long antennae but we also have the black field crickets and the dark striped cave crickets on our farm.
