God is so good!   I discovered one of our beef cows had calved over the weekend.  Cutest little heifer!  I need to get a picture of her.   Then this morning I went out to discover my jersey/Holstein heifer (Nosey) had a heifer calf.   She is again the funky brown that all the calves have been but one.  The one born over the weekend is more like her mama except silver and white instead of red and white.  Mama is a longhorn.

I think Nosey is going to be a good milk cow.  There was a puddle of milk where she had been standing cleaning her baby.  I did bring her in and hand milk just a little, about 3/4 of a coke bottle, out of the teat that was dripping most.  I will try the milker tonight... I hope my son is here to help.   I did manage to hobble her leg back.  She kicked a little, but no huge wrecks.  I think in a few days she will do well.  Just what I needed was more milk.  I went out after I put milk up to get pictures and she had taken her baby and left the area.  I will try to get pictures this afternoon of both new calves.

Our weekend was wonderful.  The rodeo was great!  It was neat to be there with all my family.   I ran into 2 friend one from high school and one from elementary school.  The one from elementary school it has been about 15 years since I saw her.   She recognized me.  She came up to me and said, "MY FRIEND!" and hugged me.  I hugged back thinking, "Do I know you??? Who are you???"  I kept letting her talk and praying and listening very hard and finally it came to me.   She looks really really good, but her hair is a different color and she put on some weight, which she needed.    I got to show my grand baby off  to both of them :)

Our rodeo is one of the top 5 in the nation.  So we had lots of good rides and lots of spills because the cowboys are pushing to the max so they can come back next Sat. for the finals.   No injuries, which is always good.

After the rodeo we all went out to dinner.  Talk about a crowd!  It was fun and full of laughter.  Even the baby got into the enjoyment of it.

The only down side was that my 10yo didn't get to go.  She had made really bad choices and lost the privilege.  We left her with a friend and took the friends DD.  She and my 7 yo are good friends.   I was sad for her as she loves the rodeo, but her choices left me no choice.   Funny thing was, she wasn't really mad about it.  She had gotten over her mad by then and could see and understand how her choices cost her the rodeo.  She says it won't happen again.  I hope so.  She has to learn to defuse the anger she allows to build up before she makes bad choices out of anger.

Sunday we went back to town to the Cowboy Church they have each year at the Rodeo.  Cory Ross was the preacher.  He is awesome.  If you want to here some of his preaching here is his web site.  http://www.wccowboychurch.org/  He is funny and sings really well, but preaches it strait out of the Bible, no frills, no milking it down.   We use to go to a cowboy church that he preached at once every couple of months, but that church is no more, so we only get to hear him twice a year.  Funny thing is he remembers us.  I wish I remembered people that well.

After church we walked around and looked at the fairgrounds.  There really wasn't a lot of interest to me.  The stock show has grown into a monster.  You have to know what day what is showing to see it.  I liked it when the stock stuck around all week so you could see the breeder sheep and goats, the calves.... but it isn't like that anymore.   Some things are just better smaller.  I think they had over a thousand meat goats show this year alone.

Today is laundry day, only problem is the wind is blowing so hard I'm not sure if my clothes will stay on the line.   We have red flag warning, which are fire warnings, today.  Our humidity at about 10 last night was up to 23%.   With gust expected to be over 40 mph today it won't be fun doing anything outside.  I will try to get laundry done because it messes my whole week up if I don't.

My other goal is to try and declutter some.  I really think it is a lost cause.  Some day the clutter is just going to overwhelm me and I will be buried in it.  Until then, I will try to work on de cluttering every once in a while.   I like stuff!  I get it then wonder why I got it.  Most of my "stuff" is second, or third hand.  It isn't expensive or anything, but it is stuff.   I don't even know where to start with this process.  Probably the school room, since most stuff that I don't have a home for gets stuffed in there.   Wish me blessed decluttering today!

I am off here to start my day... not bad, only 10:00.   All have a blessed day!

About Me

Just want to share the joys and tears of living in the country with others that understand them both. I am mom to 5 children. Two biological and three adopted. We are praying for one more adopted soon. We live 40 miles from town on 117 acres. My days are full of homeschooling children and dealing with livestock. Life is never dull or boring or "normal" what ever normal is. I ramble on here often, some times more than once a day as this is my main form of socialization with adults during the day. Hope to make some new friends here.
