Wow, how many goats did you have to sell? He had already taken a 32 ft. goose neck out this spring. I think he had about 150 mamas, and around the same number of mainly big kids, (50lb).
Sounds like a bunch! What breed of goats do you have? Most of these were boar cross. There were a few Spanish nannies in the group.
Sounds like you get feeders in the fall and then sell them in the spring? What he does is a about the first of Oct. he starts buying bred nannies, of all descriptions. This year he was a little pickier on what he bought, less Spanish, less extremely thin ones. Then brings them to mama's house and I play midwife to them. I also get all the bottle babies. Most of them are trash goats or one cut above that. Not a lot of quality. Lots of old nannies, which really with feed in front of them all time will raise good kids. They just don't have the teeth for pasture.
Do you sell them directly to the meat markets in the east? He sells and ships all over the US. Lots go to the east, some go to CA. It so depends on what they are and what time of year it is. So much of it is to the different ethnic markets on both coast.

We raise Boer and Boer cross goats, but only have 30 or so does. I sure do enjoy them! I love the goats. I do get tired before the season is out. This year was especially hard with some other things going on. I really am glad to see them gone. I am thinking Monday that I will sort my stuff and send my junk and big bottle babies to the sale too. I am in a clean house mood :)
I did refill the pen with beef in the making. I have 2 calves that are close to ready and 2 more that are a couple of months away. I had such good results with the last round. I hope I can find homes for these. The way we eat around here and the numbers I feed I may want one of the 2 smaller beeves.
Speaking of beef. We went and got ours today. We had an empty 16 cf chest freezer. We filled it totally and had 20 lbs or so of ground meat we gave a friend. There was way to much hamburger. I really wish I could find a way to make a beef with just STEAKS. :) Dh is grilling some T-bones as I type this. I hope they are as good as usual. I am really going to enjoy this big red bull :) He was a pain and caused lots of problems.
