No I am not counting down the days until retreat! Not me! I wouldn't dream of doing some thing like that :) I am taking milk, yogurt and cream cheese. I have made 5 gallons of milk into yogurt, and 2 of those into cream cheese. I can't decide if I want to do one more of cream cheese. For those that think I have lost my mind on doing cream cheese from yogurt. Take yogurt line a strainer with a cheese cloth, or unbleached muslin or a bounty paper towel. Dump your yogurt in and let it drain 24 hours or so. Now use it just like you would cream cheese. Taste any difference? I have make cheese cake, and dips both with it. If it isn't firm enough I flip it over and let it drain some more before I take it out of the strainer.
Yesterday the wind made it seem cold. I finally gave in and built a fire. My grand baby's mom was cold.... along with the rest of us. It showed to be about 60 outside and 68 INSIDE. Way to cold for me, or them :) I also decided to make granola since I was out and that would use the oven. I made a double batch. First batch I made I used honey, second one I used rapadura instead. Kids like the second batch better. Each batch makes a gallon jar full. By bed time I had one jar down 1/4 an the other just a less. I don't know why they didn't eat much supper last night. One of different things I use is flax seed. They are really good for you. I use them in smoothies and other ways. I also put them in my granola. The down side is they are the brown flax seed and when you see them floating in your milk your first thought isn't flax seed.
My 2 older kids have 2 more months in 4th grade! I am amazed at how fast time is going. It really reminds me that I need to find the 5th grade Switched on Schoolhouse. That is our base but we do so much other too. I am cheap and would really like to find it used. I have been watching Ebay and off and on Vegsource. I just missed it on Vegsource. Any one have a good used curriculum site that would have SOS. I have really liked the SOS in lots of ways. It even has stories about adoption and that was made for my kids to hear. Also how God adopted us all into His family. :)
Our wind from yesterday hasn't came back, as bad. Yes the wind is blowing and yes it is less than fun to be outside, but the sky isn't red and the wind isn't howling as it picks up dirt and rocks and throws them. I didnt hear of any fires yesterday on the scanner. That is a blessing. I did read where a fire closed I-10 about 2 hours from us for a while. We again have fire warnings.
Tomorrow is town day. I have a HUGE list. DH seems to want some "easy" foods for this weekend. LOL He can cook, just not with wheat berries, and other from scratch cooking ideas. I will buy him some sorta junk to cook. Like pancake syrup, and bread. Like others he really likes his store bought bread.
Now it is time for me to accomplish part of my packing list and other get read to leave things. All have a blessed day!
