• Saturday, December 8, 2007 - It's a GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I think!  Maybe!  I hope!   My milk cow calved.   She wasn't sharing that baby very well.  I didn't have time to play games either.  This is as close as I got.  I think from what I saw and didn't see the calf is a girl.  I will find out this afternoon.

The baby is 1/2 Holstein and 1/2 Murry grey.  I really like the Murry greys.  The calves are TINY as you can see, yet they are lively. This one is already keeping up with mama and isn't dry yet.  They seem to grow really fast too.  This calf is so tiny and her udder is so big if you folded him back up like he was before he was born, he wouldn't be any bigger than her udder.

I need to find all the coke bottles, water bottles and anything else I can freeze in today so when I milk tonight I can freeze all the colostrum.   I will use this for baby lambs, goats, calves and anything else I end up bottling that didn't get any colostrum.

Today my DH, son and another guy are going to put up the solar panels for the pool.  I still can't believe DH is doing this.  He is looking at using them also to heat our house.  I will get pictures along today and post them after they get the job done.   Solar is something that has interested him for a long time.  I think this is just a way for him to start really learning about it.   I will keep you posted as to how it works.

We are having my now 7 yo's birthday this afternoon.  It's hard to believe we have had her almost 3 years.  She has changed so much.  Really from a baby into a little girl.  I sent DH to WalMart last night for her gift.  Girly Girl hair stuff.   She came with hair about 2 inches long.  Now it is down almost to her waist.  She LOVES messing with hair and playing with hair.  Hers, her sisters and my DIL's.   Notice I didn't mention mine in there. I don't like mine played with.   Anyway he got all kinds of PINK hair stuff for her.  I'm not even sure what else.   She is such a girly girl.  She will do dishes in high heels, dress up clothes and be totally happy.   We were going to make a chocolate cake, but on the box there was a recipe for chocolate cherry bars that sounds really yummy.  The chocolate cake mix, a can of cherry pie filling and chocolate chips, topped off with chocolate frosting.   Now that is MY kind of desert!  She saw it and wanted it.  We had to borrow pie filling from DIL.  It is nice to have her next door to borrow from.

Hope every one has a blessed day!

Your cow is HUGE and her udder is HUGE! What is the plan for the calf? Raise as milk cow? Beef?

About Me

Just want to share the joys and tears of living in the country with others that understand them both. I am mom to 5 children. Two biological and three adopted. We are praying for one more adopted soon. We live 40 miles from town on 117 acres. My days are full of homeschooling children and dealing with livestock. Life is never dull or boring or "normal" what ever normal is. I ramble on here often, some times more than once a day as this is my main form of socialization with adults during the day. Hope to make some new friends here.
