Ever watch a peacock try and strut his stuff in the wind? It is funny! I am setting here watching one of the "babies" (spring hatch) strutting his stuff. Two problems, the wind keeps tipping him over on his nose or bottom depending on which way he is facing, and he has no stuff to strut. Did you know peacocks don't get there pretty feathers until they are older? I was they are about 3 years old before they have the long tails. I will keep you posted on that. We are still playing the guessing game on boys and girls with these chicks that are as big as their mamas now. I think the neck feathers are how you tell. That and of course them strutting around. The hens seem to have green on their necks and not near as much color. While the males have blue necks and are a lot bluer. They are so fun to watch!
My dh brought my birthday present home early. I had ask for something gold. Didn't happen. I got a shock collar for the dogs. I love it. I had the most peaceful walk yesterday morning. No yelling at dogs. I had one on a leash, and one loose. Loose dog went charging down to bark at the beeves. I said, "NO!" which he ignored and hit the button. I heard, "Arrrf" and he stopped barking and came back to me. :) The rest of the walk if I said no or here, he came. Amazing! Yesterday evening I went to check on the cow that is due. I took the ranger. Of course dog jumped in. He has a bad habit of jumping out too. So he came in, and as he bailed out I called his name and hit the button. He again went "arrrg' and loaded back up. This time he didn't get out until I told him. So nice :) In between I put it on the dog I want to find a home for. He is so bad about jumping. I would then send a kid out to play with him. As he jumped they said no and i zapped. He is so funny. You pop him on the nose. IF he gets the no message then he yelps around like you almost killed him for 5 minutes. Same with the collar. You zap him and he yelps all over the yard. BUT, it isn't jumping on the kid near as much!!!
Back to my request for gold for my birthday. You see all these advertisements about giving her what she wants, gold, diamonds, flowers..... I am not a fufu type person. I don't like or want or wear that type stuff and I have two brown thumbs. So to give me that would cause major issues. So when I told him I wanted gold boy did I get a look. I let him wonder a bit then explained myself. What color are jersey's? I really would like a couple of little jersey heifer calves to raise. We will see :) Since we don't do big birthday gifts it is really a joke, just like the shock collar is. We wanted/needed it and got it. Because it is sorta close to my birthday he tells me this.
I took more pics of the barn yesterday. Here are a few of the pictures.
First here are some of the goats I check each morning and evening. Their are around 250 out here. Most have now had their babies.
Here are the nurse nannies in action:

In this Picture T is getting babies on and having a discussion with one of the goats. My guess is she isn't standing still.

MJ is getting these babies on. Did you notice that some of these babies aren't goats, but lambs?
When we have fed all that we can on nannies we have to go back to the stand by.

Most mornings we do about 10-12 on the bucket. At night we do about 14-16. The reason we do more at night is the "nurse" nannies have adopted some of the babies and so they feed them during the day. That leaves them with less milk. I don't feed those babies morning or night. They eat all day. At night I lock the babies up so the nannies have a LOT more milk. There are a couple that I don't even try to milk at night that feed 4-6 of a morning. Yes, the babies they adopted are doing quite well.
The time has come for me to go see if I have a new calf. She hadn't calved as of last night. It is also time to go feed this zoo. I hope everyone has a blessed day!
