The day is almost over.  I am enjoying one more cup of hot tea before I tackle chores.

Chores are lessing as the goats have about all kidded, which means fewer bottle babies coming in to be taught and fewer problems to be dealt with in the nanny pen.  I upgraded this morning to the bigger bucket to feed babies.  Once they are taught it is really easy to feed them.  I turn 7 babies loose and get out of the way.  You may have to help sort out which one gets which nipple but that's it.  My small bucket only has 4 nipples.

I was very pleased this morning as my heifer, Noisy came into the stanchion.  She had lost her halter a few weeks ago.  I haven't had time or energy to even try and get it back on.  When I feed her I rub her face in hopes I could slide it back on with out to much trouble.  Today I sent a kid for the halter while she was eating.  I had no trouble getting it on her.  She isn't gently enough to pet without feed.   She is getting better, but not there yet.

I am thinking about getting a couple of jersey heifer calves when my big cow calves.  That way I could raise them gently with the sheep and goats so again I would have a cow that I could cut the middle work out and feed off the cow.   I am also thinking about trading one of the beef's we have been raising without added growth hormones or any antibiotic shots for a milk cow IF the right cow comes along.  A friend thinks he knows where there is a jersey.  He isn't to dependable, but maybe.   I also need to sell a couple of the beeves.  They are about ready and my dh hasn't gotten our walk in freezer done.  Maybe next month.   We have 6 of them on feed, but only 4 are ready, maybe 5.  Then 3 more coming along that will be weaned soon.

I'm not sure what our weekend plans are.  I will leave that to DH.  He gets to figure the tough stuff out.  With a chance of rain that will limit the things we can do.  I hope it rains!!! We need the rain so bad!

I hope we still have enough leftovers for supper when I add a baby spinach salad.   Today was our produce co-op.  I even got a few sliced mushrooms to add to the salad.  I have learned that mushrooms are something I forget if I don't use as soon as I get them, so they go in the salad tonight!

With the clouds it is getting dark so early tonight I guess I better get busy.  All have a blessed evening!

About Me

Just want to share the joys and tears of living in the country with others that understand them both. I am mom to 5 children. Two biological and three adopted. We are praying for one more adopted soon. We live 40 miles from town on 117 acres. My days are full of homeschooling children and dealing with livestock. Life is never dull or boring or "normal" what ever normal is. I ramble on here often, some times more than once a day as this is my main form of socialization with adults during the day. Hope to make some new friends here.
