I'm really good about when I see any of the animals cycle I write it down on my yahoo calender. I figure the gestation and write when they are due. Then I forget to look at it again. That is IF I saw it or got it wrote down to start with.
I noticed my big milk cow is bagging right along. I decided I better go find out when she is due. I "thought" Jan. This is why I write stuff down, I can't remember next week, much less nine months. I was wrong. She is due the 7th!!!!! Oh boy! More milk than I know what to do with! Oh boy playing with a loaded gun twice a day. Not really but she kicks, not EVERY time, just once or twice a week or month or when I think she isn't going to and stop hobbling her. I would never allow the kids to deal with her. The only "kid" that deals with her is my 21 yo. He helped me break her to milk. She HATES him! She kicks at him more often than me.
While I was "looking" I discovered my old ugly cow is due in Jan! eek! I am still milking her. I will finish drying her up quickly. I would have liked her to have had a longer rest. I "thought" April for her... wonder what if any cow is due in April? My heifer is still bagging and looking more like she is bred. Maybe she is April.
Lesson learned! I will not only write it down but send a reminder a couple of months before due dates. That way I can make sure I have them dry and ready to calve.
