Are you sure? I think it needs to be!
I had just started to open the page when the phone rang this morning. I seldom get phone calls before 8 AM. I was thinking ds is moving fast today. NOT! It was a friend that lives about 5 miles from me. She and the local female deputy were out on the side of the road near her house chasing pygmy goats. Did I want to come help? Er, no not really. I called my other adult son that lives next door. "Do you want to make points with the local law enforcement?" Sure! After growing up around law enforcement/fire/EMS they are always ready to help. He took our trailer after he FINALLY found the right ball for my truck. Seems someone needed it worse than we did so we had to find an other one.
This of course threw me behind on my chores. Last night I "borrowed" 2 more of my son's nannies that had lost kids. These had HUGE udders. The down side of that is these are pasture goats, not milk or even gentle goats. Teaching 130-150 lb goats to stand and let babies eat is a job. Just catching them and getting them held in place is a job! I have three stanchions that I can use. Two for wild goats that need to be hobbled to the fence and one in the middle for a goat that will stand. The down side is if they have horns, especially long horns then getting their head in is an extra struggle. Did I mention all of these have HORNS? They are really doing well. Once they are in and hobbled we could toss babies on without explosions. We have had them that hobbled they still explode. Once I get 3 in I let the 6 yo feed babies on them. I milk the cows as she does this. Once those three are drained I resort and attach the other goats. We have 7 I think. Only 2 will sorta stand. Once all the nannies are done we finish babies on the bucket.
Add to this normal mix the fact I had a nanny that has big LONG teats I have been watching have babies. I knew the way her teats are the babies couldn't nurse. They are less than 2 inches from the ground. I had to catch her, an other 140 lb goat, and treat her just like the nurse nannies, only her rather dumb newborns had trouble figuring out how to nurse. Finally they got with the program and ate. I will have to do that twice a day until her babies figured out how to access the milk without help.
Yesterday wasn't much better! I started the day off with my first milk cow managing to hang the O part of her halter the part you snap to the fence, over the milker and I look up to see this very heavy, very EXPENSIVE, machine swinging on her halter. I quickly go to help her but she manages to get it caught between the wall and her feeder by then, and is starting to panic. I finally grab the electric cord and manage to swing it around the feeder where I can get it off her halter. Yep, you guessed it, I unplugged the cord INSIDE the machine. It wouldn't work for the second cow. I brought the milker to the house, left the cow, I am working on drying her up so it isn't a big deal.
Next step, pumpkin pancakes! I get them mixed up in the vita mix while the grill is heating. It didn't seem to be getting hot. I have a fancy hand dandy heavy duty stove with a grill that is 3/4 inch steel. So heating does take a while. But this isn't heating, I turn it up more, still not more than to hot to touch but not hot enough to cook pancakes on. I get out a skillet and make them the old fashion way. I call dh again, I have already called on my milker. Again he says I will deal with it when I get home. ( Did I mention he sells these stoves. :) )
Life improved over the day. We had sunshine!!! It isn't warm, but it isn't cold. Most people would say it is warm probably, but then I am NOT most people. All went great until I went to check stock last night. They had no water. Hummmm this might be a problem. This is ds goats. I get to mine and they also have no water. If mine have no water that means my son and DIL have no water. Yep this IS a problem. I again call dh who is on the way home. He can't do anything until he gets home. LOL do you see a pattern here?
I had one child do her school with joy and finish. One procrastinate and not do it at all and one lie to me about it and get caught. Oh the joys of homeschooling! The procrastinator isn't getting to play or have fun. The liar lied to go outside and play. She lost that privilege for the rest of the week. She will be playing inside. Did I mention she LOVES being outside? Such a fitting consequence! When she went back and did it correctly it took maybe 30 minutes, yet the lie cost her outside play all week. I wonder if she will see how her actions effect her life?
Plans for today? I see all of you having these wonderful plans you check off as you do. It seems plans at my house is God laughing. If I make plans then life happens and the plans don't! Today I just want to finish the laundry. I have one more load. Hang the clothes in the dryer, and get them ALL put away! If this happens great, if not guess I can try again tomorrow. The only things that are carved in stone around here are feeding critters and milking cows. Those are carved in sandstone.
LOL life around here is sooooooo subject to change! I didn't even get this posted, I started at 11:49 so it says on the clock below. It is now 3:26. Some friends dropped by and we have had a great visit.
I am also SOOOOOOOO frustrated with a case worker in NM!!! She was supposed to GO OUT and visit with W. last night. She didn't get to for what ever reason. Remember it has been almost a month since his visit. She is going to "call" him tonight. Adoption worker wanted her to go out get him alone and really visit with him about being adopted and everything. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!!! Oh well I have to trust God. God can deal with any situation! I just have to wait and let God do His work! Not easy for me. Please continue to pray!
Ok off to see what else I need to do today! |
