Of the 7 babies I brought to the house last night and fed I sent 5 back out in hopes of finding mamas. I brought 3 of them back in and added 2 more that weren't part of those. One was a tiny kid that wasn't working on standing up. I didn't even play that game, I just gathered him up. Then my son came out. before I finished chores. Notice I didn't say DS, just son. :) We penned most of the 300 goats, leaving any that we knew had babies and didn't want to travel. We took all the sheep. Once we got them penned he realized he really needed me out there. DUH! I knew the goats, at least some of them. We sorted through them and sorted off the dry's (lost babies, no milk). Once we got that done I came in and ate breakfast er lunch. DH had been so sweet as to make lunch.
I finally got back to Thanksgiving cooking about 3. We now have tortilla roll ups done. Almost done. We haven't sliced them yet, they are just rolled up. Then I finally attacked pies. I have 2 chess, 2 pecan, 1 pecanless pecan, and one pumpkin cooking right now. I have the filling for a couple more pumpkin. One I am going to toss some pecans in and see how it turns out. Then I have the can filling for cherry and apple. (Does that make me a bad person, I use canned pie filling?) My new fancy oven will hold 6 pies!!!! YEA!!! it has the fan in the back so they should, all cook even. I think I could get 3 more IF I added the other rack. It just isn't worth adding it.
Our forecast for tomorrow is cooler than today. Today it wasn't really cold, just cool with a north wind. Tomorrow is supposed to be 10 degrees cooler, only in the 40s. Then they say it MAY get messy. We need rain, but I HATE snow/ice or any of that cold white stuff.
I am disappointed in that it looks like the base lost our volunteering to feed 10-15 service people. Oh well we did all we could to be on the list. Who knows maybe some will show up anyway.
The barn has exploded in babies again. I have several new lambs that my son didn't think would make it being taken to town. He took all the sheep to town as they weren't doing well here. Who knows why! Then the 5 new ones and I know of one more that he sent mama to town as she had no milk anyway. Add that to my dd loosing barn privileges and it won't be pretty. We will get it done. Then I will make more pies. I am hoping dh will make some while I do chores. He is a good pie maker. At least out of a can. He CAN roll out pie dough! probably makes them look nicer than mine. I am not a pretty pie maker.
Pies should be about ready to come out of the oven, so off here. Hope everyone is having a blessed day and a wonderful Thanksgiving! |
