Thanksgiving is sneaking up on me. I can't believe that it is already the week of Thanksgiving. I have pumpkins in the oven cooking. I will use them to make pies. I need the sweet potatoes washed and in the oven with the pumpkins. That hasn't happened yet.
I still have my granddaughter. Her parents should be home late this afternoon/evening. My son warned me she had a mouthy attitude that he was dealing with. Boy was he right! First evening and into the second day mouthy was the way of it. She decided that mouthy wasn't the best way to handle this grand mom. After I explained in blunt terms that she was NOT going to talk to me are any adult like that she has been her normal sweet self. My son laughed when I told him.
I have one still working on wood detail from lying. I wish it would soak in that we aren't going to let it slide. We aren't going to pretend it's OK. We are going to hand out stiff consequences each and every time he tries a lie. Like I told him he really should stop, he isn't very good at it.
I am trying to bucket my oats. I bought 100lbs of oats when I got my wheat. My dh assured me that 1 wheat bucket would whole 1/2 a sack. He was close. Add 1 gallon jar and he is right. I still have to come up with another bucket. I only had 3. I am going to top the buckets off with a sock full of bay leaves to keep the bugs out. I wish I had a freezer to put them in. Even for a week or so to kill any bug or bug eggs that might be in there. Wish my freezer wasn't over full of "stuff".
I am trying to get my laundry done quickly today so my DIL can use the washer. We share a washer and dryer. We both decided to do laundry today. I try to only wash once a week. I have been making an exception as I am tired of the carpet of clothes upstairs. I gathered 3 trash sacks full last week. I haven't decided if they can have them back or if I will just have them wash all of them and give the to someone that needs them more. Since then I have been having them bring ALL clothes down every thing after they get ready for bed. Right now they have to scramble to find clothes that fit and are look nice. My 6 yo has had to wear a dress for town ever since. Now she IS a girly girl but she isn't happy about this. :) I am!
Chores are going well. Most of the bottle babies are now trained to eat off the bucket. I have gathered some new ones in the past few days. 2 lambs yesterday that were still wet and dirty, no sheep anywhere near them. Then one lamb that was a day old following a ewe that didn't love it, wouldn't let it nurse and was just pretending the lamb wasn't there. Then 2 little goats this morning that were hungry, not sure why. Guess mama didn't want them either.
My son and I are talking about buying a milk cow or two to train to milk. We found a place that sells them reasonable about 3 hours from us. All breeds. He is thinking of getting a heifer that is bred and once she calves sell her for a farm milk cow. Any one want to buy a milk cow? I am just short milk and would like a fresh cow now to keep me going. I really need to dry one of mine up. Not that she is giving that much anyway. |
