I have had a slow ok slow isn't even close day. I think I figured out my hand problem. I was building up to a chronic fatigue day. I slept about 4 hours today. No that isn't normal, but maybe it will help me get my balance back. I am not sure what brought the CF on. Since I have dealt with this my whole adult life it is "normal" but it isn't fun! I should be good to go for Thanksgiving now and who knows how long before I have to play catch up.
Chores are going well. Most of the babies are now eating on the bucket with very little help. The bucket is a bucket with nipples sticking out the side. Inside the nipples have hoses that reach to the bottom. It is like eating out of a straw to drink. This works great once they are up and going well. I have 3 sizes of buckets. I am using the little one right now. I can feed 4 at a time. It takes less energy to drink out of it, but it holes a lot less, about 1 gallon. As they get stronger I will move to the 3 gallon bucket. I hope I don't have to go to the 5 gallon bucket. That would mean I have way to many babies. I think my 3 gallon will feed 7 at a time. At this point the 6 yo can do most of the babies on the bucket.
The 10 yo is in charge of the milk goats. Keep in mind 2 weeks ago these "milk" goats were pasture goats. They have big udders and lost their babies. I had my son help me catch them (rope) and bring them to the barn. She does really well at dealing with them. Two of them have adopted so I have less milk at night. I leave them with all the babies during the day, put all the babies in the barn at night. Feed of a morning on them and let "their" babies have them all day. Goats milk IS best to raise babies on, but I don't have enough, so I feed the weak or sickly ones on the goats and try to start lambs on the goats. That is where I see the biggest difference. Lambs do much better on goats milk.
We now have several lambs. Two are the oldest and they only get scraps. Scraps is what ever the babies don't drink. Then there were the two I pulled, well one was almost out, one I went fishing for and mama was exhausted, but not to exhausted to run off and never look back after I got them up and her setting up right. One of those is a miracle lamb. It couldn't stand up. I kept feeding it and thinking I would have my son put it down, since it wasn't dying. In about 4 days with help he could stand and nurse a goat. By the next day he was standing. I have no clue what was going on. After that came the one that was asking the goats, calves etc. "Are you my mama?". The twin to it wasn't doing that well. I saw it flop and went and picked it up. It looked like a dirty rock. A couple of days later we had one trying to nurse any sheep that was handy. MN loves the lambs. They are her pick. I like the goats best.
MJ finally finished his school today. Now he is busy doing his consequence. He was to do 10 loads of wood, BUT, he decided to tell me another lie this morning. So he doubled his consequence. He owes me 20 loads now. He has gotten one done. His choice how long it takes. I do think that he needs a more physical consequence than writing sentences or other such passive consequences. He is at the age that he needs to burn energy.
Then the girls decided since I was resting and dad didn't know they shouldn't they would play with the baby goats and lambs. The problem is that they don't stop when they should. These babies are to young to play as rough as the girls do. The consequence was a big thank you from me. I thanked them for making the choice to disobey. They could clean for me. Then they decided to argue as they didn't clean. So again I thanked them and told them they had just added a chore to their consequence. Please keep arguing and not working together. I told them I am in hopes they will get the whole house, porch, yard and barn done before they figure out how to work together. Strange the arguing has stopped.
We are having spaghetti for supper tonight. I have the sauce going. I do cheat and use canned sauce as my base, but by the time I get through adding it isn't much like canned. I think I will do mash potatoes and broccoli for church tomorrow. I have broccoli that I need to use. I ended up with more than I wanted from co-op. Mash potatoes are easy. I need to come up with a meat to take, but haven't yet. I have so much hamburger, but it takes time to cook and get it ready. Maybe I can do something in the crock pot with a few packages of hamburger tonight. I will have to think on that.
Darkness is sneaking up on me. I guess I better get off here and go check goats and start chores for tonight. |
