• Tuesday, November 13, 2007 - Evening Update

Thank you all for the prayers. They were much felt this afternoon as we waited and waited for this interview.  They were running about 45 minutes late.   They first talked to MN then MJ then me.   I really think they heard her, and if not believe all she said, believing enough to know something horrific happened.  They said they would investigate more.  Continue to pray because there are other children involved that are NOT safe like mine are.

I have the most wonderful friends.  One insisted I stop by on the way home.  She pampered me and listened to me vent and share and sent supper home with me.  How awesome is she!

Chores are getting easier.  We have weeded out a lot of the lesser kids that just didn't make it.  I use to really worry about that but a vet gave me some wise words a few years ago.  He said that if you average 50% year in and year out you are doing great.  I know that if I had 2 or 3 I would save a few more and cry a lot more tears over the ones I loose.  With so many I do the best I can and care for the next one.  So If I brought 30 kids to the barn and still have 15 at the time I sell I would be doing good.  I have more than that at this point.  We have also "borrowed" a couple of nannies that lost kids.  There is one I named Sweet Pea, because MN mumbles, "I hate this goat!" as she is trying to get her to stand still not get bit or horned or stepped on and get babies to eat on her.  Yes, she does BITE.   She also weighs close to 200 lbs.  She is doing better though.  The kids and dog managed to pen her tonight.  Kids came in saying they had everyone but her in.  They couldn't even drag her in.  I suggested the dog.  She got the message quickly and was where they wanted her.  I am sure the dog was disappointed.   The other two are much smaller and easier to handle.  One is a La Mancha and the other is just a red Spanish/boer cross.

I am teaching MJ to milk the cow.  I have one cow that is just about bomb proof.  She doesn't spook or kick or anything.  So MJ has been setting the milker up on her some.   My jersey isn't quite that bomb proof.  In fact she kicked me a few weeks ago.  I had made her mad, should have saw it coming but wasn't with it.  Her tail was swishing like a cats.  She just glanced off my leg.  That was the first time since she first freshened she had even tried to kick.  Then there is my big red Holstein.  She is due to freshen in Jan.  She IS a bomb!   She doesn't kick every time, but often enough I tie her leg back every time.  She is also HUGE.  I have gotten spoiled to these little cows.  I would love to sell/trade her to someone with a small breed milk cow like a jersey.  She is a great nurse cow and gives LOTS of milk.  But she is not sweet and gentle.  Anyone want a cow?

Again Thanks for all the prayers!

About Me

Just want to share the joys and tears of living in the country with others that understand them both. I am mom to 5 children. Two biological and three adopted. We are praying for one more adopted soon. We live 40 miles from town on 117 acres. My days are full of homeschooling children and dealing with livestock. Life is never dull or boring or "normal" what ever normal is. I ramble on here often, some times more than once a day as this is my main form of socialization with adults during the day. Hope to make some new friends here.
