• Tuesday, October 30, 2007 - Waiting on Daylight

My day is already filling up.  I can't go out and check goats until I can see.  So I spend time here thinking of all I need to get done.  We are going to a friends house to make laundry soap today.  Kids are excited, but adults probably are more excited.   We are going to have a day of fellowship with like minded women.   I can't wait.  LOL but like I tell my kids when they say they can't wait, "Bet you can!"

My son's goat pen exploded with babies yesterday.  I lost count of how many were born night before and yesterday.  I know of 2 sets of triplets.   Over all the mama's are doing better.  I had one that didn't love her babies.  I have decided it isn't the color of the goat it is the color of her ear tag I don't like.  All these goats have black button ear tags.   I know they are from one set.  At least some of them are starting to have milk and seem to love their babies.  Maybe they have been here long enough and getting enough good nutrition to make a difference.   One mama that lost hers had a huge udder.  I am sooo short of milk.  MN and I worked her down into a smaller pen.  I had bought a little head gate last summer.   I got it set up and with MN's help we got her to run in it.  She is wild and crazy.  Once I got her caught then I ask MN if she wanted to milk.  I left her happily milking that crazy goat as I went to milk cows.  She milked about 1/2 a gallon of colostrum out.   I will see if she has milk this morning.  If so MN can either take a couple of babies out and let them nurse or milk again.

We still haven't heard from the NM case worker about W. coming this weekend.  I called her yesterday and left a message.  She is traveling until Wed.  I don't know if she will check her messages before she gets back.   It would be NICE to know.  I might even try to clean the house a little more, in my spare time.   HA!  Kids have been coming up with ideas for food while W. is here.  A cobbler and BBQ ribs seem to be the two number one things.   Funny no one suggested green smoothies.  Maybe they are afraid of scaring him off.  I am really laughing and thinking God's timing is perfect.  As this is my busy season.  This is how crazy our world gets.  This is also when I am the most grouchy and stressed because I am tired.  He will get a really good taste of how our life is.  I am praying that he does get to stay late enough on Sunday to go to Church with us.   That will be an experience for him I am sure.  We Home Church and our church is full of families and babies and fellowship.  We have about 5-10 families.  It isn't traditional by any means, but it is awesome!  As one friend said Sunday, bring him to church that will seal the deal.

I need to bring my plants inside off the porch.  I have huddled them and covered them hoping that we would again warm up for a few weeks before cold really got here, but it just keeps getting down in the 30s.  I dread bringing them all in and finding "light" places for them.  Most of them have to go upstairs.  We have a porch that shades the downstairs windows to much.  I have one avocado tree that is about 3 ft tall.  It looked really pretty until the goats trimmed it a couple of weeks ago.  At least they trimmed it and didn't mow it down totally.   I probably should just leave some of them out and let them freeze and replace them but... To me it is just like killing them to do that.  I know I am strange!

I guess I have procrastinated enough.  I need to get dressed and get milk ready for babies.  Then maybe it will be light enough to start my day.  Everyone that reads this long ramble have a blessed day!  Post a commit so I know I am not talking to myself!

About Me

Just want to share the joys and tears of living in the country with others that understand them both. I am mom to 5 children. Two biological and three adopted. We are praying for one more adopted soon. We live 40 miles from town on 117 acres. My days are full of homeschooling children and dealing with livestock. Life is never dull or boring or "normal" what ever normal is. I ramble on here often, some times more than once a day as this is my main form of socialization with adults during the day. Hope to make some new friends here.
