Bagels, baby bunnies, kids and "when did I clean under my sofa last?"

***Bunny and Bagel pictures forthcoming!***

So today was an interesting day!  I made GREAT Whole Wheat Bagels! That's not to brag - but more a statement of - 'Tah-Dah - type astonishment!" YAY!

Actually today started yesterday.

As the sun was setting our family went for a walk on our back pasture. Hubby, our three kids all out in the cool evening air as is the Miller family custom of a comfy summer evening. The field had been cut and the fall hay was bailed so the field was wide open.  Our black lab, Chewy (short for Chewbacca) was out and about with us as usual.  He headed to the middle of the field about 2 acres away and began to dig - as usual. We thought he had found a mole - as usual - which is fine by ME!  But then we heard it...a sad, but loud, loud squeal! So the kids all ran to see what Chewy had.

Our son got there first and yelled - "It's a BUNNY - a BABY BUNNY!"  Needless to say, everyone went running to 'save' the bunny. Then found out there were four!

Chewy was not hurting it (he carries little beings gingerly in his huge mouth to BRING to us like trophies, abandoned kittens, baby birds, moles - and won't KILL a thing unless we let him keep it and then he 'plays it to death.'  So Chewy handed it over to our son. Who promptly began to look in the nest and find two more - one was trying to make a get-away and the other was greatly malnourished and under a dead sibling. We then remembered a hawk had 'gotten' a rabbit a few days ago before the hay was cut - it must have been the Mama.

So off to Walmart we went (at almost 9PM - 20 miles away) to try to save the baby bunnies! We could only get kitten milk - but so far - they are ALL alive and the tiny, tiny runt is doing GREAT!

They are so doing so great in fact that after all the kids circled around them on the floor (after a feeding today) one decided to explore and got under our sofa. This prompted me to lift a piece of the sectional and find him (along with - WOW - WHAT IS THAT? other types of items).  So that prompted me to remember when WAS the last time I cleaned under here??? This little bunny (our youngest daughter has named 'Cecil') has given new meaning to 'Dust Bunny' - I think I have 'GUNK BUNNIES' under MY sofa!

Now you may be picturing three *kids* - you know stair-steps - since all of ours are less than 18 months apart from each other - but no - our *kids* are 22, 20 and 18!

It really is a joy to see them all huddled together taking care of baby bunnies, just like they did when they were little seeing chicks hatch for the first time (back when they WERE 4, 6 and 8!). God is so good and we have been blessed with a wonderful family...even if mom can't keep things clean under the sofa!

Best Blessings!

Donna

I can totally relate to your kids. My children were 29, 24, and 23. They found baby kittens out in our woods about half gone, and brought them home. It was the same scene as yours, just made me smile. We did lose one of the kittens, but the other 2 did fine! Thanks for the memory :)

ahhh now you are a mom to baby bunnies, I remember a time when I too rescued a baby bunny, it would later die from the heat but it was neat while able to care for him. Have a great weekend
