Putting It All In Perspective
"While many are worrying about filling their gas tanks, many others around the world are struggling to fill their stomachs." - World Bank president Robert Zoellick (quoted in World Magazine, May 3/10, 2008)
Just reminded me that as bad as things look, we still have it very good here in the United States. My heart is filled with gratitude when I read this, and my unhappy, uneasy feelings about the future are lessened a bit.
God's Word is full of admonitions to prepare, plan, and be busy working with what we have, but not in a frantic, worried, panicked way. Why has He chosen to bless me with plenty when there are those around the world "struggling to fill their stomachs"? I do not know, but the least I can do is be thankful for each day my family has enough.

You are so right.. I am finding that no matter how much or how little we have if we Have a heart toward being thankful for where we are and what we do have it sure makes you think...
The sad thing however that is not in the news or at least they are not reporting it is the fact that there is many many families right here in the that is having to go without food and basic needs. I am seeing more and more families that are hard working families now in the food banks. Due to job loss or just not being able to make ends meet.. I wish there was more on that in the news..
god bless

I thought I had added you to my "friends" list and yet, your entries were not been coming up when I clicked on the link. So, I checked in on your blog to make sure you were still here . . . (I didn't do something right when adding you. I am glad you are still here and all is well.) . . . Well, I read several of your entries today and enjoyed hearing about all the work you have been able to accomplish. And became a bit excited about our own up-coming garden as I read about all the work you and your family have been doing on your place. It was like sitting down with a good friend and discussing gardening / home projects. (I even had my cup of tea while "visiting".) I look forward to coming by again . . . soon!
Blessings; Carrie

Amen....I am very grateful each day for food and the ability to fill my gas tank with fuel....I have been to Africa when we adopted our children, and the incredible poverty is indescribable...my children know what it is to have no food for a week and some days longer....they are a reminder to our family every day, to thank the Lord for His blessings, and pray those same blessings over the ones who are suffering Now.
Thanks for your short but incredible and powerful post....we do not need to say a lot to make a statement:-)
Blessings,
Connie

Thanks for your post. This topic is very much on my heart too. As a matter of fact, my husband wrote a little booklet on our responsibility as Christians to do all we can to help the poor. We've been to India many times and the poverty there can not compare to what we have in the US. I'm so thankful that our government has social programs. We met one ministry in India that drives around the streets of Delhi looking for people laying on the sidewalk who don't move. Those are the ones dying or in need of hospital care. Then they pick them up and take them to a clinic, and when they are well, they provide a home for them. We need more ministries like that around the world.
I wasn't able to leave my name, but I'm Jena, and you entered my giveaway, so I came by to say hi! My blog is http://www.closeyoureyesandhangontight.blogspot.com. and if anyone is interested, my husband's booklet is at http://www.goodmeasure.org/home/just-a-little-more2../introduction
