Looking for Dress and Apron Patterns

04:10, Tuesday, February 5, 2008 .. Posted in Sewing .. 1 comments .. Link

I made a few things this past weekend (see my pictures, I'm trying to keep them updated), but I'm quickly realizing that the things I like for my girls only go up to size 4.  I need to try to adjust the patterns to work for my older girl.  She's about a 4 around, but about a 6 long.  And because of her long legs, the high waists don't look right on her.  If you have a pattern you love for either a simple dress (regular waist) or an apron/pinafore for a bit bigger girl, please let me know.    I love Candle on the Hill's Jewel Apron, but I'm trying to keep costs down while I save toward a serger.

Also, any tips on combining patterns (can you interchange similar sleeves and bodices?) or adjusting patterns (like the pinafore in my picture - bodice needs to be longer... should I also adjust anywhere else, or just add inches to the length??) would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I am always interchanging patterns - it's a bit of trial and error, but I think if the sizes are the same, it's pretty easy.
I have a little book I found at our christian bookshop called Mandie's Cookbook and at the back of it, there is a cute pattern for an old-fashioned apron with bib and straps over the shoulders. It even has a little bonnet to go with it. It looks pretty easy - you just have to enlarge the pattern on a photocopier first. It doesn't have sizes, but the patterns are basically just squares or straps and a pocket. If you would like, I can copy it and mail it to you. It would take about a week to get to you though through snailmail. My email address is in my profile. If you think it's something you'd like I'll take a picture of the page and put it on my blog, so you can see it.
