Considering the New Year...

I'm starting to formulate some thoughts about New Years.... I'm not a big "resolution" person.  I think there are several problems with resolutions, for me, anyway.  For one thing, in my mildly pessimistic thinking, they are a big setup for failure!  For another, I think it's easy for me to try to "do" my way into favor with God.  As in, "All right, Lord, this is the perfect chance for me to try again to be the perfect Christian (wife, mother, etc.)... maybe I can do it THIS year."  For another, as I begin to fail, as inevitably happens, I get very discouraged, and chuck the whole thing.  And then there's the guilt that goes along with "broken" resolutions. 

It may all be semantics, but I think I'll plan some "Goals for 2008".  Looking long-term.  Something like, "by the end of 2008, I'd like to have...."   Or "during 2008, I plan to work on...."  I think I'm going to plan some personal and family goals.  Maybe I can set aside some time with my husband to talk through with him some goals HE would like to work on or would like me/us to work on.  And then, I want to have a way to measure and remember what it is that we'd like to work toward.  Maybe put questions on my calendar.  Like, "Have we read....?" at the end of March or "How are we doing on...?" at the end of each month or "remember to work on...." at the beginning of each month. 

So anyway, my goal for this week is to make some goals for 2008.  :)
