A Good Day?

Sometimes I wonder, in the eternal scheme of things, if we really know what makes a good day.

Today, for example, has been a "good day".  From my perspective, I've been a good mommy (so far, anyway!).  I've managed to keep my temper; to work with my difficult 3 year old instead of against her; to be hospitable to the children who insisted on waiting on the porch while our family ate lunch; to referee a board game played by my 3 year old, my 5 year old, and a 9 year old neighbor; to distract my 18 month old son while they played; and to clean up the lunch dishes at the same time.  The house is only kind of a mess, not the usual disaster and a load of laundry is almost done.  I've read books to all three children.  I've kept them out of Daddy's hair so he could work on organizing the garage.  Oh, and I successfully got my 3 year old to take a nap.  Now as I write, I realize that after naps/quiet time, this may all change.  But to me, it's been a good day.

But that makes me wonder.... if I get a chance to look back over my life someday from God's perspective, which days will show up as "good"?  Will it only be the days that I deemed good?  Or will some of the worst of my failures show up as "good"?  I wonder if I'll be surprised at what God chose to redeem and use for good in my children's lives or even in my own.  I hope so, because from my limited perspective, there are so many more days I'd just like to erase than days I sigh and say, "That was a good day!"

I'm a lifer instate, growing up rural and living in the city since college. You don't mention where you are living....is it in the metro area? All the best to you...I hope the adjustment on everyone goes well.
