In and Around the HomeThank you for the comments and messages while I was recovering. Your prayers really made a difference! I rarely catch colds, but this one sure caught me.Even though I spent the past few days wondering around the house, making tea, blowing my nose, and sleeping for twelve hours at a time, it didn't exactly keep me out of the kitchen or the garden. Aren't these beautiful? They took longer to bloom than regular irises, but were worth the wait. They bloomed in white and yellow, too. So lovely, I hope they spread. In the Garden: This has been the rainiest, coldest May in seven years. We get a warm or sunny day once in a while, but never long enough to let the ground dry out so we can get our much needed till in before planting. The rain is supposed to break by Friday, and our tomato and pepper seedlings are ready to go in. There are seeds, too! According to the forecast, the rain should break by Friday, so perhaps this weekend we can finally till our soil and get things started. We received a wonderful blessing when an Aunt called to offer us a rototiller that she has not used in some years. Until now, when we need to till, we have had to haul a tractor down from my in-laws, which we would borrow and then bring back. It was a bit of a hassle for my husband, who had sold his tiller some years ago. If this tiller is in good working order, we should make fast work of that vegetable patch. In the Kitchen: After placing my rhubarb order last week, I had to chuckle when the grower ran outside to temporarily take down his sign! Really, it wasn't that much. I had just gotten it all canned when a friend told me that her neighbor's patch is ready for harvest, and would I like some more, for free? The neighbors are in Florida and don't care what is done with it. Can you imagine? (hey, Kitty, best wishes for your plant, and I'll be happy to give you some ideas on what to do with it!) Giving Thanks for: After months of doctor visits, physical therapy, an MRI and a cortisone injection, a shoulder injury that happened last autumn while helping my husband work on our house has been healed and given the "okay" by the doctor. On the Nightstand: Backwoods Home magazine (Jackie Clay is amazing) and the newest edition of the Blue Ball Book of Canning. Leave a Comment { Last Page } { Page 34 of 108 } { Next Page } |
