The Mennobrarian

Back and Plenty Busy

I've been working on a post and would love to share about our trip, and I have some photos too, but precious little time to mess around with them. So I hope to post about our staycation* soon. Meanwhile, Linda has nominated me for this very difficult meme. Thanks, Linda!

This is what I have to do:

1. List (at least) five things to do for free in your city or town, not just well publicized touristy things, but things YOU might do too!

2. Write it with a visitor in mind.

3. Tag three people* - extra fun if they live somewhere you'd like to know better or

4. If you're anonymous/coy about where you live, choose another town or city that you know.

This was very difficult. We live on the border of two different counties, and close to the borders of three different states. Much of our immediate area is privately owned farms. But here it goes:

We do live near a lovely state park that has nature trails and a scenic lake. Some people camp and swim there, but often my husband and I take the dogs for a walk and enjoy the fresh air and exercise. Cost: $0

There is a lot of window shopping to be done around here...antique stores, yard sales, and second hand shops. In fact, the day after we were married, we did just that. We drove to a nearby town with lots of nice little shops and looked at the antiques. While we were out doing that, we stumbled upon a historical society that had a free exhibit on life in that town a hundred years ago. Cost: $0

Oh- and there is the zoo! It's a small zoo, but it's open every day and has a rather impressive collection of animals for a mini-zoo such as itself. I recall seeing monkeys, reindeer, tigers, and I think even a bear. Cost: $0

Well, that was easier than I thought. These were all things we did on Sunday afternoons (after church) when we were still courting. Perhaps that gave me somewhat of an advantage on coming up with ideas. If there was a free stroll to be had somewhere within a twenty mile radius of our church, we took it.

Anyway, I am nominating anyone who would like to participate in this fun and challenging meme. Leave a comment here so we know where to look.

*Staycation: Trendy new term that means vacationing close to home.
