Musings from a Far North Farm

• Saturday, April 5, 2008 - I'm Back Again!

This time it's been 2 months. We now have a family of 7! We have 2 foster kids, Aiden and Chantrell. They are full blooded Eskimo and are 3 and 2. When they came to live with us, they only spoke Yupik. They're very bright and are learning English.

My mom and dad moved. Sounds like Dad will be back in a little over a month. I'm so excited to see him.

Also, I got a dishwasher AND a new stove. ALL the burners work on the new stove and the oven holds a good temperature! What a blessing!

Meg is doing well, we just got all the horse stuff planned at the 4-H meeting this morning. Dusty is still building a guitar, and Cam will be getting his puppy before long.

I think we're going to be getting our own cows for milk, and to sell our shares.

My family just came home...guess I'll get back to work.

Thanks for listening,

Tan

Hey, I like your timetable for blogging. It's just about the same as mine for HSB2. It's hard for me, since we aren't on our homestead permanently....yet. However, we've had it for over 10 years and only now will we get power. I personally LIKE the generator--I like being self-sufficient. But when you are only there for a week or 2 at a time and can go home to the city life, it's different from having to do without. And I like outhouses, too. But in 3 feet of snow at night....well...I shudder at those days. (We also had an old camping port-a-potty, which was NIGHTTIME use only....and pee only!). LOL That helped.

My DH's dream all his life was to live in the middle of nowhere in Alaska. He loves "Alone in the Wilderness" and I actually liked the program too. My DH has the book. I guess north-central WA state is the closest I'll let my DH get to Alaska. Not that I wouldn't mind the wilderness. I just can't stomach the thought of the short days in Dec/Jan.

DH is at our place, getting it ready for the power (that finally made it up to the mountain) that we will get there this spring. Because....he is retiring (still young, but with the school district, so only have to work 30 years) and we will be going over there within the next 4-5 years to live permanently.

That's what my HSB2 blog is for--once I'm over there with my critters there will be more blog fodder.

Thanks for stopping by and maybe we'll cross blogging paths again in a couple of months. :-)
