A Mom's Musings

• Monday, October 1, 2007 - Is it autumn??

My calendar says it's October, but it's been unseasonably warm here in NH this fall!  We're expected to reach 80 again on Thursday and Friday this week!!  Mind you I am NOT complaining!  We haven't even run the furnace yet!

Well, it does look like autumn.  The garden is just about done.  I've got jars and jars of pickles in the fridge (the first batch is ready tomorrow - can't wait to try them out!).  I'm starting to birng in my tomatoes, albeit green, but they ripen quickly in a brown bag.  I've been making salsa - YUM-O!!!  It's been coming out wonderfully, every batch.  I may pick some more oregano before the first frost and dry that for winter use.  We had such a dry summer that I'm not sure our foliage will be all that great this year, but we're getting some color, and my birch and aspen leaves are yellow and falling quickly!

I've been working on my first quilt!  The center panel is a drawing my DS7 did in school last spring, and you could have it made into any number of items.  I chose a quilt panel, and have finally begun the project.  It's going to be a patchwork quilt and will be a mish-mosh of fabrics that I have around.  Next month I'm going to a woman's scrapbooking retreat!  Can't wait.  I had really wanted to go, but with money tight as it is, didn't think I could justify the expense.  My mom - bless her heart - surprised me with a financial gift over the weekend and that will cover most of the cost!  She had no idea about this, she just wanted to bless me.  I told her what a direct answer to prayer it was and of course she was so tickled.  I'm selling a few things on eBay and that will cover the rest, so I am able to go on this much-needed get-away without touching the regular budget at all.  Thank you Lord!

House is on the market, for three weeks now.  Had a bunch of showings at the beginnning, as expected.  We did just drop the price, though, to what I perceive to be a much more competitive price for our area and the market overall.  If we don't catch someone trying to get into a new place before winter, I fully expect it'll sell in the spring.  I'm prepared to be here through the winter, and have relaxed quite a bit since we first listed the place!  After all, it's still my house!!

ETA:  Oh, by the way, the "simplicity" of having no microwave was short-lived!!  I only missed being able to heat up my coffee (I tend to put it aside and get distracted, only to return to a tepid brew...Blech!), but DH was just lost without it!  He comes home every Friday night to left-over home made pizza and wasn't about to pre-heat the oven and go through that process at midnight!  Can't blame him, really.  He was the one who discovered that the problem happened when the clock was set.  If we don't set the clock, it works fine.  Oh well! LOL!
