I'm not sure exactly what brought it on, but I have suddenly realized that I am far more suited to a life at a camp, as DH and I have been pursuing, than I would be in a life as a full-fledged homesteader!
What I came to realize was, that while I love the "kitchen" and "homemaking" aspects of home steading, my dreams of chickens and sheep and such are just that: dreams. The reason is, I love to travel. I can garden and sew and knit (when I ever learn!!) and put up jam and pickles and the like, and pretty much keep my own schedule. When you bring livestock into the picture, well you're married to your place and their care schedule. Not very conducive to the get-up-and-go!
So, in all this "do we keep pursuing a camp or not" discussion my hubby and I have been having, I think this pretty much clinches it (he is with me 100%, and besides he's the one who wants a new job anyway!). At some point I hope to have a horse again, but you can board them and not worry about their care if you're away for a week or two.
Kind of feels good to settle this! Now, if I'm lucky, maybe our camp will have some animals! |
