skating nightmare.......

Let me preface this by saying that while I can stay on top of my skates, I so not skate like a normal person does. Don't ask--I just don't. Let me also note that I do not stop unless I run into something--usually a wall (a planned attack). I also have NEVER been able to do the splits. EVER.

I decided to go ahead and try adn skate and see how my foot did. Things were goign well. I was minding my own business skating down the fairway and then much to my horror a little boy (6 or 7yo) halted and turned to skate across the rink. Yup, right in front of me. After thinking OH MY FOOT, I quickly realized that I did not want to A) knock him straight to the floor upon impact and then B) squash him like a bug when I went down. So my feet fly apart (so that I wouldn't roll over him) and I managed to put my arm around him so that he didn't ricochet off of me to the floor. After that feat, I somehow managed to fall 'around' him so that he was not squashed like a bug either. This left me in a partial splits. He, of course, popped right back up and skated off (did I mention this is the 1st time he's ever been skating??) and I am totally shocked at this point that I did not hurt my foot, hurt him, OR pull something major in my split position!ROTFL!!!!!!! I got myself up and a few moms (his included) were coming up to see if I was ok. I was really. I was just way more concerned about hurting HIM.

So skating went well. Another record breaking attendance and more skaters than ever. I hope the rink thinks this is OK. They've yet to say anything so I'm thinking that no news is good news.;)

You sound like quite an accomplished skater if you got through all that without hurting yourself or landing on the boy!!! LOL I haven't been on skates, and don't even want to know what I would look like skating! LOL
