grasshoppers......

The lady at the cultural center had a recipe for 'chocolate chirpy cookies'. She went over all the different areas that eat insects as food. And the cookie recipe called for 1/2 cup of grasshoppers (I forgot to get it and need to email for it). So I was making that crust for the grasshopper pie and Mat only saw the title ont he recipe and thought I was making the cookies!ROTFL! I could just imagine how that would've gone over tomorrow night for dessert. Here, have a grasshopper cookie......ROTFL!

I do want to make it for the kids. I need to make sure I can use grasshoppers you buy at bait and tackle shops tho!LOL

My dad once got his hands on a can of chocolate covered grasshoppers ... I never had the courage to try. My brother did and has never been the same (giggle).

HA HA!

See, I WANT to serve them to my brother! But he gets alot of grief over food cuz he eats anything. Once we visited my grandfather (who had Parkinson's) in the hospital and DJ asked if he could have his food. Gfather said yes. So DJ ate it all and then my gfather was like YOU ATE THE CARROTS? Dj was like yea, He said, so did I but I couldn't swallow them so I spit them back out!ROTFL!!!!!!!!! My DH never forgot it so my brother offered him some dog treats once under the guise they were beef jerky. DH liked them. DH is the pickiest person on the planet so we all nearly roared.......

ROFL again at your funny family! So will you TELL the boys that they are eating real grasshoppers? Will your DH try them, do you think? Let us know how it goes, but DO NOT offer any to me if we make it out your way this camping season, LOL!

Okay, here's a link for you: http://ohioline.osu.edu/hyg-fact/2000/2160.html And one sentence from it, which is why I am giving it to you: "Most American insect recipes are based on limited types of insects easily purchased from supply companies, pet stores or bait shops." So looks like you are good to go. :-)

THANK YOU!

I figured they would *probably* be OK, but wanted to make sure they didn't treat them to make the fish more attracted!LOL

yes, the boys will know what they are eating. I might not tell them until after tho. Just for fun. THere is no way on the planet DH will eat them and I would NEVER not tell him. That might mean grounds for divorce. My brother will be a sneak attack tho......they are the best. I'll do it to my dad too. Once they eat them I'm certain my BIL will try one for kicks (or jumps??LOL).
